Special Treatment & Favouritism?

I believe the decals are not issued out of favouritism, but out of the actions related to the game. When certain actions catch the attention of the development team they might warrant that with a decal.

Barring any evidence of favouritism, I'll put it down to a bit of harmless enthusiasm from Frontier.

Agreed. Besides that, I've got 2 decals I received because I clicked a link and won, the EGX decal and another one I can't even remember. Oh, and I got an Eagle skin for the same reason. So there are unique things individuals can get too. In OP's eyes that might be a problem as well, while I have something because I was at the right time and place, someone else who wasn't is holding an empty sack. But if you give things to everybody, nothing is special anymore.

I don't follow OP at all.

I don't think I get your point.
If I join a power I should be able to get the decal for that power, simply for joining it and taking the risks of representing it. If I leave it the decal should no longer be available. Special decals for PP should be earned through CGs, just not the basic PP decals.

Do they have power play decals too? I know players have been asking for them for awhile now.
Yeah they got the Alliance decal from previous CG. Not the Fed or Imp yet.

On the subject of favouritism and special treatment, how long are 'Founder/backer' players going to keep on being rewarded above everyone else?

People who have just as much interest in the game now and contrubute just as much if not more, are receiving less content than those who signed up first. Had I even known this game existed earlier, I probably would have backed it. But I didn't even know it was in production until after it's general release.

They can't keep doing it forever surely? Especially once the game is 'complete' new players are going to be be pretty annoyed if they get less content that people who signed up several years ago and may not even be playing anymore!

Ok, that's fine. I don't agree, but that's fine as well, and besides the point.

Do you feel not getting a decal for joining a power is a sign of favouritism?

Yes they can keep doing it forever. And due to FDs poor advertisement of ED years ago, I didnt know it was being made. I would have backed it aswell, I bought 5 accounts 3 with lifetime passes and 2 with horizons.

I've long suspected Frontier have their favourites but now they are actively showing it. Arbitrarily giving special treatment and favours to certain people/groups is something I have never seen from a developer anywhere else.

Arbitrary?

You even recognise in your complaint that these groups have been recognised & rewarded for their contribution to Elite, to the community and ultimately to your game.

Seriously, we're seeing complaints that ships are rank & credit locked, complaints that game content is game progress dependent, complaints that you actually have to play the game to get the rewards of playing the game!

Yep. Nice idea. Very much like "competent combat rank achieved" decals we have.
... "I cashed in discovery data for Sagg A" could be another automated decal?

Fact is though it's yet another job on the to-do list, for Frontier to automate things like this (and I'd suggest they've got rather a lot on) so .. for now .. 'favouritism'?

I was on the Distant Worlds expedition. I didn't get a decal because I didn't want to hang around for an extra few weeks not doing anything. I wanted to get back to the bubble. I wanted to minimise the risk of an accident and losing all my exploration data. I wanted to get on with playing the game.

But I'm glad for everyone that did get a decal.

Just thought I'd say that if you don't think that there was already pushing behind the scenes by certain people to get special rewards, then you're mistaken ;)
I know there was behind the scenes talk, I don't know what it was about. So I can't comment on that. :)

This thread is a perfect representation of the real modern western world.

Every time someone gets some cookie as a nice gesture for going the extra mile, instead of being happy for them and acknowledge their merits the masses rise from their couches in anger, demanding their own cookies because "they exist".

We can agree to disagree. :) No, I feel giving basic decals in CGs is favoritism when every should get those. I take the risks like everyone else that signs up for a power. But for the father, nothing?

Given the sheer number of player groups currently registered, it would be prohibitive for FD to include a decal for them all.
Hence why the ones that were added were based on those actively taking part in events as a reward for doing so.

No doubt. In case I wasn't clear my point isn't about decals but its rather more about how Frontier have certain favourites and how this affects their planning for the game and the direction this takes. If they are dishing out special rewards, and lets not forget the triple AAA group fiasco, then there is most certainly a thinking behind it. With such an obvious show of approval how can they possibly not be biased in their decisions re the game and the design choices they make?

the people that put the most into the game.

Hu? Who is that then? How is this decided? I know lots of people who've put a tremendous amount of time and energy into the game but they don't appear on Frontier's list of approved gamers.

On the flip side I would ask, who do you think is losing out or are being under represented? And what would you like to see FDev do about it?

I'd ask for everyone to be treated equally and fairly, for the game to be run and managed for the benefit of all players and for Frontier to stop being biased and giving special treatment to their select few. I really find it hard to understand why thats such an objectionable position.:S And, well I've just never seen this sort of thing before in any online game.

lol But the decals need to be made unavailable when leaving or changing powers. Make it like after one week of changing powers the decal will appear. Something like that.
