13 gb of update ? isn't a suspiciously large content, or it's only me ?

I am downloading the 2.2 update and the download (for me since i have a low bandwich) is very huge .

13 gb of contents ? maybe i wrong something or what ?

maybe some package of the old version were completely modified ?

or devs added something of very interesting and misterious this time ?

Since you're mentioning 13 GB, I'll assume you're talking about Steam being stupid. Don't use Steam to manage the game installation, the normal launcher will be a lot more efficient by (1) only installing either the 64bit or the 32bit installation instead of both, and (2) doing fairly efficient incremental updates.

so... if is not 13 gb, how much truly is it the update ?

out of cuiosity on this.... WHY is steam so bbad for elite?

in every other game i have when there is an update it is just a small patch.

the only other time i have heard of complete downloads from scratch was the mess that is the windows 10 store with games like GOW4 and Forza.

There are a lot of assets that it's just possible/easier/more efficient to overwrite completely instead of append to. As just one example, if a section of an anaconda lightmap has been fixed, they'll replace the whole anaconda texture pack ..

People mentioned a similar situation for some other games (Planetside 2 and something else); interestingly, it does differential updates for other titles like Path of Exile where you'll see a 20 MB download followed by 10 minutes of hectic disk activity.

As far as E:D goes, it appears that once you've acquired the license key you best run it completely outside Steam. Or you just buy directly from the Frontier Store, since why would you need two abusive parents? ;)

I bought my copy through steam cos it was cheaper at the time. Yeah 13gigs. I reckon they just overwrote the while thing.

That wasn't a Steam thing, 13gb was the actual size of the Horizons 64bit update.

My 2.2 installation is c. 9GiB.

Mine is over 30GB!

Could this be because I have ED 32 bit and 2.2 beta files hanging about?

Yes I think so!

So I removed the PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER and FORCE_FDEV_XXX (can't remember it fully) folders, did a verify game files through the ED launcher (not steam) and my install size has become 12.5GB

Honestly I'm surprised it's not bigger. I've got used to thinking of any game download under 20 GB as small these days.

JUNE 2017 UPDATE ...13GB TOO !!!

I hear that!

I already updated my Elite Dangerous on XBOX ONE... and then all of a sudden another 13GB update a few weeks later! ...I have capped internet, so this is a GREAT cost to me! ... why don't game developers think about stuff like this.

I have been forced to deny the update for now.

Why do game developers release games so under cooked these days?! ...I got FF15 recently and from the box it was so UNDER DONE! ...it looked TERRIBLE! ... and then I go online and find that it needed over 20GBs of patches.. RIDICULOUS!

Anyway, I know this is an old post, but I feel for anyone having to update their games...damn annoying.
