Horizons Wave scanner now rubbish?

Is it just me, the moons I have been prospecting on or is it general that the wave scanner is now rubbish?

You go along doing the old "there must be a double-band signature before too long" hunt for MMs, decide to blow up some other meteorites to pas the time and then just as the band gets really narrow and the meteorite should pop-up in screen and in vision (or vice versa) - the wave scanner signal disappears but no target, so you follow the sound (or try to) but nope - nowt there. This used to happen very very rarely but today this has been probably 50% of the signals that I follow. I now find myself driving around in circles at that point and find something by eye maybe half the time.
This is really stupid, so hit and miss.

Does anyone else find this?

(The chondrite signature has changed too - is that the same for everyone?)

:(

Well, the fact that signatures and their sounds changed wouldn't bug me that much.
The fact that the signature sometimes disappear, sometimes doesn't show distance properly and the sound is cutting off as well, THAT bugs me a lot.

I have played nearly 10 months now and whenever I used an SRV I would get a signal. Never a target. Just a signal. The wave scanner had been crap from day one. (For me, anyway)

Someone posted yesterday that the scanner was no longer accurately displaying man made structures. (Bars at the middle and top of display).

I haven't used he SRV since the 2.2 release, but was in the Beta. I didn't see anything like this all the way through Beta 7. Can anyone else confirm that this report is accurate? Or is this some kind of pilot error?

Checking it now. I noticed in 2.2 screenshots it is not detecting the ship even though it is RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF THE SRV!

Thanks for checking! That is what that OP had said come to think of it. His ship was not being displayed on his SRV scanner.

I've got some Skimmer missions to do tonight, so I will get a chance to test this for myself as well. Sure hope that this isn't a release bug! I'm going to need that capability to find my Skimmers!

I'm going to take a punt on being in the right place with this ask!

I have tried to do skimmer missions from the ship. Hence dumbfire missiles. I see blue circles. I lower the altitude and the blue circles disappear. Is this normal?
I obviously go nose-down attitude to see the planet surface, but hard to see anything.
Once when I did a nose-down the blue circle shrunk and I reduced altitude aiming for the ever-shrinking blue circle. There was a non-interactable POI there.
Is it normal to have a shrinking blue circle like this?
Does the disappearing blue circle mean there is nothing there?
If it means there is something there, does it mean I would have to use an SRV to locate it?

Sorry for all the questions but I can almost never find skimmers in a skimmer mission. I have to rule out the variables as to maybe I don't do it right.

Yes. It's a bit annoying but you can't see the blue POI circles if you are under 1500m. In fact they start to fade out at 2km. You just have to eyeball the centre beforehand and rely on your eyes.
It was made so by Frontier to make us use SRVs in POI hunting. A bit cheap, if you ask me.

Anyway. When you found the POI from air, land near the supposed centre and deploy your SRV. The best chance of finding skimmers is when they are guarding cargo.
(I hope this one didn't get changed but...) The cargo canisters have a very distinctive signal - thick line in the middle of the upper half of the scanner band. If you see such signal follow it and you're bound to find at least two or three skimmers near the cargo canisters.
If you are not that choosy, every man-made object (they all appear as various signals in upper half of the scanner) has a chance to have skimmers around, so it's up to you.

But as per the original post of this thread - the scanner seems to be a bit unreliable, at the moment. I hope it's just some kind of bug and it will be fixed, because it the scanner is supposed to work like that, now, it is going to be frustrating.

Similar subject: I have tried to do the skimmer missions and nothing. But an hour ago I delivered cargo to a planet. I noticed a bit of blue. Checked it and found three barrels, all targetable, but all required mission.
I suppose if I had an SRV I would not be allowed to take them. (Or the game would have hidden them)

It allready was a chore to get mats that way, now its even worse.

Half of my stuff i just miss.. and that was in the light.

It's definitely bugged.

You can follow a signal to its source and the signal disappears once you get there. Back off a bit and there it is again. So it's a false reading.

It doesn't seem to have the range it used to have, either.

And it's terrible and picking up man-made stuff. It doesn't even register my ship at all.

So yeah...something is busted.

PS: Here's an old video of how I find the center of a blue POI while flying. It still works this way, was doing it yesterday to find skimmers myself :)

The trick is to line yourself up pointed directly at the circle while at 2km height, then pitch down at 25 degrees or so and fly to the ground. It'll be just about there.

Pro tip: If you get into your SRV to shoot them instead of using dumbfires from your ship, you can verify wanted status on them and avoid bounties on your head.

Confirmed, I was getting strong signals that just vanish when you get close to the phantom source. So yes, SRV scanner is bugged.

Yeah, definitely noticed this too. I'd be tracking a deposit, and whenever I'd get close, it would disappear from the scanner .

Hi Malcolm, I am certain I read here either in the patch notes or another thread but the mod answered that it was a known bug and they were working on it.

Hi again George,

I did check and it is not on the known problems list sticky in the bug reporting forum. There are bug reports on it so I just added a post to the latest one in support of the report.

The wave scanner is broken. Not completely broken, but mostly. :(

Thanks to you and everyone else for confirming the problem. I managed to hit Allied with the Alioth Independents by finishing my remaining delivery missions, so I went ahead and aborted my two Skimmer missions after reading your update. (Unlocking Bill Turner)

Based on what all you guys have reported here, I don't think I would be able to track down Skimmer locations that are not at the mission location/base.

So... Until this fixed, looks like I won't be taking any new Skimmer missions. Just hope I have enough Engineer mats on hand to last me until Frontier fixes this.

This must have gone south between Beta 7 and the release version, cause I had no problem seeing my ship on the SRV scanner in Beta 7.

Bug reports have been filed I see, so I guess I will just sit tight and hope we see a point update early next week.
