Horizons Ship Transfer costs need to be reduced to less than 1,000CR - provided you have a 2nd crew member

I recently thought about transferring my FAS to my current location. The location was only 58LY away from me and it would take 14 mins and cost 335,000CR. Erm, for that price, no thanks, DIY.

I stripped a Hauler into a "flying petrol can" and flew there myself. Scrapped the Hauler for minimal cost to me and flew back with my FAS. OK, it took longer than the 14 mins for FAS to reach my location but the following is my main gripe...

What is the point of having the 2nd or 3rd Crewmember, if they just sit on their *** in the lounge with their feet up, each taking [up to] 12% of my profits? Why cant they get off their fat *** and go earn their pay by picking up my FAS for me?

Umm... no? they are fighter pilots, not taxi drivers. Don't insult them. :p

But I will tell you a trick. Kit the Hauler for long range. Keep it, you only need one. Whenever you need a ship transferred, call your hauler, use it to pick up your ship. Bring your ship wherever you need her. Call the Hauler again when you need her.
That way you only move the Hauler around, which costs nothing.

Chris, neat trick. Will have no option but to do that. I shouldnt have to do it that way though...

I could be paying my crew 100,000+CR an hour each, on a good run, to sit in the lounge. They are paid to follow my orders and are paid to die gloriously if needs be. If I order them to be a taxi driver, then they better be the best taxi driver in the galaxy or find another employer!!!

I hope Frontier find a more balanced solution to this or they might find nobody uses the 2nd/3rd crew slot...

Chris, I don't get it! I flew from Frey to Maia and back again and it only cost me the Felicity Farseer commodity. I fuel scooped all the way.

We are talking about the ship transfer. You can order your ship (other than you are currently in) to be delivered to the starport you're at. But for bigger ships it costs a lot of money (subjectively)
What I suggested was that instead of having the big ship moved remotely and bay the big prize, you can outfit a cheap Hauler and go fetch the ship yourself and then have the Hauler moved, which is cheaper.

It's all kind of a "Time is money" trade-off.

Real fighter pilots sometimes have to move their jets around as well. Doing so is not an insult to them and it doesnt make them taxi drivers.

Doing that FTFY non-sense is actually considered impersonation and is against the forum rules. You've been warned.

How about 50% chance of ship loss?

That'd be hopelessly unrealistic though. I've moved my fleet around 5 engineers before ship transfer and wasn't attacked once all that time. So 50% would be much too high.

Well, yeah, but it's still much cheaper than buying a new one every time, like we used to.

Not sure about that, when I stripped my Haulers down I was able to sell them for 35K, at 10% loss that suggests a cost of 3K per trip (which doesn't scale with distance). Which makes transferring the Hauler 5 times more expensive, a price I'm happy to pay because building and stripping Haulers got tiresome after a while, especially when you get stuck at ports with bad parts. Got so bad I was considering posting a Hauler Hire service in the suggestions forum.

I agree that transfer cost can be a bit too steep at times, but less than 1000cr as a general rule is absurd.

Mmmm, never thought about that.
That is indeed something to consider.

Oh, right. I didn't thing you would sell them. I had tons of them all over the place and bought a new one every time I need to move a ship. :D

The point is surely that the ships are not flown (piloted) across the distance - they are hauled inside huge transport ships. Hence you can have ships in storage with piddling little FSDs, no shields, no fuel scoops and still they can be transported vast distances because they don't actually move under their own power.

Understand that, however, we now have module storage and module transfer. Gone are the days when we needed to buy a ship just for the sake of storing a certain module in it for future use. I sold all my spare parts ships.

I am talking about a fully kitted out ship... I have a trade ship, an exploration ship and a combat ship all ready to fly. I have to now purchase a permanent taxi as well, instead of scrapping it every time I use it.

To re-iterate my original post - whats the point of a 2nd/3rd crewmember sat twiddling their thumbs in the lounge eating my money, if I still have to pay for a haulage firm to bring me my ship!

You would still have to pay the transport of your crew member, costs for passengers are between 100.000 and several million credits. Also prepare to randomly lose your ship.
