Well I hate to do it, but I think I'm about to scupper one avenue of scientific enquiry.
Following on from Cmdr Vall, I started to record the patterns the obelisks were making before scanning them so I could match them up with the outcome. I've got 12 videos so far covering Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon and combinations of all 5. I started the videos just as it was at it's darkest and ran it for 2 pulses (in hindsight I should have started running them for 4 pulses, but I'm certain it would make no difference). I noticed one thing.
The patterns are the same for every type of data.
The patterns of the triangles loop on a 4 second pattern, the pulsing of the light happens on a 6 second pattern. They can only align every 24 seconds, but how would you know where the "start" is? I have all 12 videos and can upload them if people do want to download to have a look through themselves. The only other thing I think you could possible do would be to record each of them for 24 seconds (4 pulses) and then not what the sequence is at the start of each pulse, then you could compare the 4 sequences for each of the different types of data. That is also assuming the pattern starts in line with one of the pulses and not the first second they turn on, considering the obelisks light up before the pattern appears and the pattern appears only when you reach a certain distance.
I'm always prepared to be proved wrong, but I'm confident in saying it's one for all.
ps. Oh and it's about to be night time. I knew I should have trusted my instincts when I thought it was days away... years... honestly that's the last time I come for advice
pps. I'm just about to sell 40 ancient relics and 7 Soontil relics at Canonn Institute for the boffins to play around with.
