Engineers Should it be possible to move into a smaller ship?

Commodity storage, at least for commodities required by engineers.
~ spend hours of gameplay to build and pimp big ships by engineers.
~ Storage full of rare and useful commodities for engineers. Plus have enough $ to enlarge your fleet.

Gameplay stop at this point, because it is not possible to purchase or move into smaller ships.
Annoying to read on mission-board "ship too large" or "required cargo space".

The Game force you to trash hours of grid and gameplay, because the only way to enjoy the game again is to discard, rare and required, commodities.

Sure, you can Store souped-up modules, and downgrade the modules build in your Corvette or Cutter and start your trip to the engineers, to collect modules for small ships and lower the material and commodity storage.
And after a while it is maybe possible jump in the next smaller ship.
Gameplay backwards ?
Should be possible to move into a smaller ship to fullfill a offered mission or purchase a freight ship and enjoy a trader mission.

Looks like you created your own problem to me. You should have set up your other ships for cargo before you started hoarding. It's not the games fault that you didn't see the obvious problem ahead. No need to hoard anything, use it.

When did 'adapt to the game' become 'adapt the game to suit me?'

Or sell/dump it.

Storing this stuff should be possible, and it should be a priority to FD. Without this, Engineers is just aggravating to far too many people.

You are making a mountain out of a molehill...
Most all commodities are purchasable and those that are not require only a small amount of time to reaquire on the mission boards.
In the future make sure ALL of your ships can carry a minimum of 4 tons of cargo until you have finished upgrading them.
Don't hoard materials. Only carry that cargo if your next stop is the engineer you plan to use it at.

Heh. I can see storage making my life easier. I don't see, however, how engineers would stop aggravating people. :D

Btw. (I haven't tried it, though) Engineer bases DO have outfittings, right? That means they also have module storage. Therefore you could store modules you want engineered, then come to the engineer with a big ship full of commodities, have the modules transferred to you, swap them, engineer them on the big ship, then store them back and ship them back to your other ship.
Theoretically you could do this with every module except bulkheads, LS, scanners and really small shields.

He could have phrased it a bit more politely I suppose but he's absolutely right. There's no need to hoard anything in ED. Materials don't affect which ships you can board, so your only concern is cargo. If you want an upgrade - wait 'till you have the mats and you're ready to go, and then go get the cargo you need for the upgrade. If you're working on rares, do that. Plan your upgrades for when your run is over. You need to take enough for 2 or three shots at it anyway.

I do agree with you though that when switching ships there should be an option of what happens to the cargo - stay on the ship option.

Welcome to ED.

Bingo... You've cracked it. :)

I did this with five different shield generators. Since the engineer is a couple of hundred Ly from where my ships are, I felt the best way to get there was in my Asp which has decent jump range and room for cargo. I transferred C4 sg's from a Cobra III and a Viper IV to storage. I also wanted to upgrade the sg on my FDL, so I put my Asp's 5D sg into storage and bought a new 5A class sg that would ultimately go into the FDL.

Flew to the engineer (Elvira), initiated the transfer of the Cobra and Viper sg's through outfitting, upgraded the one in the Asp. Put that into storage, and once the other's arrived, installed each in turn into the Asp and upgraded. Put them back into storage, transferred the 5A back to the Asp, flew home, put it into storage, switched to the FDL, sold the existing shield gen and transferred the upgraded one, and now nearly 1000 Mj shields! I also transferred a C3 one from an Imp Courier directly to the Asp and upgraded that too.

I have found module storage to be a great QoL improvement for the engineers, although commodity storage wouldn't go amiss.
