Feds forcibly occupy Maia, repeatedly bully Palin, why do people support them in the CG???

Talking to a few people in game, the answer was always like "blah blah something Imperials!" First off, this is between Ant Hill Mob (first ones in Maia) and Federation, not Empire and Federation. Ant Hill Mob called on the support of Imperial pilots because well its one little faction against the Federation's long range occupying force Pleiades Research Enterprise. Second it's like people are ignoring the fact that the Feds are treating Palin like he's their property. The only reason he went out to the Pleiades in the first place is because the Feds shut down his research base in the bubble and then (probably) led the assault on his base after he started it up again independently.

Why guys? Why are you helping these bullies? I jumped into multiple instances of the low intensity cz today where my sensors were full of red blips (many of them hollow sadly) and like two or three green blips and lots and lots of materials floating around. They have a capital ship already they don't need any more help cmon!

O rly? Because I do know the situation and I'll gladly take the side of the Fed over the slaving space tyrants any day of the week. Did you forget that the Empire had already sent military forces to the Pleiades? It would be stupid to let them go unchallenged there. They would have no doubt taken Palin for themselves if left to their own devices.

really depends on what the super powers are fighting about.

in terms of the most fair and innocent i think the alliance wins as far as i know they haven't intentionally done any large scale atrocity.

empire- moderately corrupt on the governor level i just dont agree with the base principles of it. (slave part) and they have shown they are willing to decimate entire species and planets for their own needs.

Feds- Largely corrupt on all levels however due to this i was able to get some pretty neat toys to punish pirates with. on the other hand they did fire bomb farmers and are destroying all alien artifacts/objects for materiel in building ships for short term gains. and if rumors are true they hold no problem in using bio warfare against other species.

really could care less about the current war if aliens do arrive im probably going to support them in destroying the empire and federation. until then ill take who ever pays me the most to kill the other.

OP, the best way to win a debate is to understand your opponents side and argue against it with cogent counterpoints.

Instead of dismissing everyone's argument as anti-Imperial grumbling, try to come at the argument from their point of view.

People supporting the Feds probably have different reasons. Maybe some do it because the Federation has earned their trust in the past. Others may support the Feds because the credits are good.

My point is that your thread is dismissive and inflammatory. You are more likely to galvanize your enemy than win anyone to your side.

Lastly, please note that you will never win everyone over to your side but you might persuade a few of those who were willing to listen to you.

There is no coalition. FD have engineered something that has damaged the reputation of an Independent state and brought about the guaranteed occupation of Federal forces. The Ant Hill Mob are not aligned with the Empire and neither have they asked for their help at any stage, because it is listed as Imperial Pilots, a lot of Independent pilots won't come to their aid.

I like your hot take on the whole situation, it's the kind of reasoning I follow myself. I fly the imperial flag mainly as an f-you to the federation that exiled me to begin with, but I don't exactly agree with their policies either. I think they do treat their "slaves" better than the federation treats its poor though, which is to say wiping them under the rug and hoping they die quietly. I haven't known many societies that give you a real second chance if you frak up your life, so it's a few years of rights-protected indentured servitude or a lifetime of crippling debt or jailtime (or worse). What would you choose?

Last I checked it was the empire who wanted all the meta alloys for themselves. And it was the empire who killed an entire sentient species when they were founded. Its not like the Federation is preventing anyone from landing at Palin's base.

I would prefer MAIA to remain independent, but if that cant be then I will take the Federation over the galactic slavers with iphone inspired ships.

Ehm, clearly there is a coalition: imperial fighters are joining the cause of the AHM. You may not like it, but it is what it is.

Well the point of my thread was to gaim the perspective of the other side, I'm not arguing for Imperials, and it's not dismissing an argument as anti-imperial if they literally say they are anti-imperial.

Yes, I understand fully the decadent empire has its problems with inequality and caste status that require these rather drastic solutions to begin with, but no system of governance is perfect, and they seem to be doing a better job than the Federation, as our main point of comparison. Their alternative to indentured servitude is imprisonment or execution by the state, or a life in exile in the criminal underworld as a real true-to-the-name slave. I'd ask again which sounds like a better option for the down and out individual who can't catch a break. I can't speak for the Alliance, I haven't spent much time in their space myself, but they don't have as much influence as the big two so I don't really bother trying to size them up.
I admit my position is one of frank pragmatism but such is the way of the galaxy today. It ain't perfect but it's the one we've got.

I hardly see fighting pirates as "bullying". Pirates are universally being hanged by ANY military in the world.
