The problem with that, though, is that it hinges on the fact there is a second site and that it is in COL 173 sector. CMDR N o o d l z himself suggested that Frontier may have caught on to his camping and moved the site.
Which isn't unreasonable as the elite meet preview is really old actually.
Hey everyone. I started playing just after the alien ship and barnacles were found. So were any of the clues to those in the games news reports ..like so and so was arrested and such?
Another question i have is right before the 2.2 beta several systems changed where you couldnt enter them. Has anyone found changes in those?

Here's the thing, 3A (the prospective site of the ruins shown at Elite Meet) is 1/3 the size of the planet holding the ruins from the official trailer. There are currently over 30 commanders actively scouring the surface, myself included. It's been 24hrs with no siting, and yet xDeath was able to singlehandedly find the first ruins on a planet 3x the size of 3A within several hours.
The lighting and surface features of 3A are the best in-system match to the Elite Meet footage. Now there are many landable rocks in the system, so I'll continue look, but at this point I'm convinced they moved the ruins.

Thanks...I wouldn't be too happy about it, but I'd understand why they did it. Might've even been a test build they had no intentions of launching into the live version. It would be really good to know one way or another so I don't waste even more of my time looking (as well as all of the others looking now)...I've already probably spent 100+ hours on this alone between searching for the system, scanning all of the planets, and heavily searching 3A.

If site 1 is a map, then it seems unlikely that FDev moved site 2.
Looking at the capture from EliteMeet & COLxxxx, there are substantial differences between the two, but no doubt COLxxx is in the ballpark.

The only real difference is the positioning of the planets/moons, which are always going to be moving around in the sky. The stars match perfectly...trust me, I've looked all around...none of the other systems in the area match, and the likelihood of having that same exact arrangement anywhere else is basically 0%. The system is 100% correct, and I'm at least 75% sure on the planet as well...it's either hidden really well in a place you wouldn't think to look (possibly on the dark side right now where it's harder to see, since it rotates once every ~5 days I think)...or it got moved/removed. The more time passes, the more I think the latter.

You could always swing over to 14I/J and help my apparently solo search here... These are a good match to my eyes and have a close companion gas giant with moons.

I don't think the relic and the obelisk are the same. The relic has only one static hexagon filled with triangles whereas the active obelisk has three changing hexagons with triangles.
The picture I posted this afternoon shows the relic while it was still on what was called monolith 1 in the latest maps. So you can still tell what is top and bottom for the hexagon.

Given the position of the shadows and the absence of the planet, I think 3A was on the opposite end of its orbit when the Elite Meet footage was captured.
I'm still sure it's more likely 15G than 3A.

I will check it out later tonight when I get on...do you have a screenshot of the surface by chance? I don't remember 14I/J but I wasn't able to find any other planets that had the yellowy/tan look from the Elite Meet video, which 3A seems to match almost perfectly as the sun is rising/setting. The stars/nebula are also quite washed out in the video, which leads me to believe the planet is near the star...I searched 15G a bit yesterday, and the stars were always super bright no matter what, and I think that would've showed up in the video, so I really don't think it's any of the outer bodies in the system. It's possible the saturation/contrast is just way off on the video though, so I'm glad people are searching elsewhere just in case.

I'm currently near the witch head nebula and tons of systems are permit locked, not in the witch head sector but on its fringe, a col sector.
I have been there before and don't remember seeing so many locked systems.

I think the proojector just washed out the stars, but the surface definitely looks like it's bathed is much more intense light than the other bodies.
I don't have a screen shot I'm afraid. But it does look pretty good match to me. Also the 14I/J pair are a close pair. From I, J looks very similar to the moon over the known xenohenge.
