Painite mining questions

Hey all, currently mining for painite,

Was wondering,
If I'm finding platinum and palladium am I in the right spot
Do u guys keep prospector limpit until u find some?
I still have do the 500 refined goods so I'm wondering if it's normal to find painite with those numbers.

Are there any special types of rock or just random luck?

Cheers guys

Actually there was a debate, recently about Painite being kind of missing.
If we still were in 2.1, then I'd say yes, you're in the right spot.

I always found it strange that, although Painite is a mineral, it was to be found in metallic rings. I mean, sure there will be some rock in the asteroids. They can't be all metal, but why the most rare and expensive rock, I don't know.

I haven't tried mining in 2.2, yet, so I can't be sure this is still true.
In any case, look for a planetary ring with Pristine reserves (you can find this info in the system map) You can cheat a little and google up the locations, or you can go and mine outside the inhabited space, where, obviously, all rings are pristine.

Try metallic first as those were the ones to contain Painite. If you don't have any luck for couple of hours, try rocky rings in case things really got changed in the last update.

Thanks for info

Will keep trying

On net to find rings but I don't see the word pristine anywhere on sys map ring info

Do I need a detailed scanner?

I don't think so. It's a bit buried in the wall of info.
Select the planet and switch to the second tab from the left. If the planet has multiple rings of different material, they are listed from the inside (closest to the planet first)

I got the painite, started off for the turn in, ran into a neutron star and lost the ship and had to start over. Long story short went back to where I got the first 10 tons from. This time I ended up with about 40 tones, so sold off 30 for a nice profit and did the turn in. I just fired prospector limpets till I found painite then mined those till I had 10 tones. Then found a lot more as I thought may as well mine till I ran out and made a couple million. That was done after 2.2 was released so it is there to be found.

Remember when choosing a Prospector Controller, A rated gives the most per rock... then B and so on.
But Collector Controller A rated does very little for a bouns.. so D rate them.

The bigger ships commonly use up to 6 Collector and 4 or 5 Prospectors all at the same time.

A rated collectors have longer range and last longer than D. Although IIRC, B have longer duration than A but less range.

As for amount, i run with 11 collectors, and its fun to watch the little minions fly around.

HIP 23585, a bit off the beaten track but Nyokot which is next door has a surface base.

Take a discovery scanner and hit the A1 ring in the inner ring close to the planet.

It's pristine and off the beaten track so the only thing you have to do is either kill the 1-3 npc's that drop in at the start or wait until they scan your empty hold and leave.

Not quite. B have long range, but don't last so long. They are the best ones for scavenging. D is good for saving on weight and power, at the cost of range, but they last nearly as long as A rated.

Thanks for the info, got about 20t so far. Seems to instance related..
Some have it, some don't

Didn't know u could equip more than one limpet controller
