Why did you kill me?

I don't know why are you all "safe nerds" farming credits for? Why do you need credits when you wanna fly safe, with no death you don't need insurance, so when you have all ships what will you do, making photos for wallpaper? Cmon it's just a game, you have choice to fly in 3 instances and you still flying in open and complaining obout being killed.
This is a valid point. While I don't agree with the mentality "kill any and every easy target I can get in my sights", it is quite easy to go into another mode. And to debate how the game should be played is pointless since you are trying to change someone's "taste". You might as well try to convince someone to enjoy the taste of a food they find nasty, while you can't get enough of it. This is applicable to both sides of this argument.

You could rename the modes Salty, Sweet, and Bland. Nothing wrong with the taste of one over the other since it comes down to a personal preference.

And to poke fun at someone else's taste is narrow-minded and dumb.

Ok, misunderstanding. I was killed to not once, not twice but without it this game will be so empty and boring... People who wanna fly in open have tools to group in wing with friends that they don't be easy target when trading, so why they don't do this instead of searching guilty? Even NPC's are flying in wing, so if someone wanna acting like a single duck, without even self protection with A shield generator so why should I care about him? No one in real driving solo with expensive cargo and people wanna immersion in Elite so this topic is pointless for me.
Don't be easy target and none will kill you.

Fair enough, and I don't think we're actually disagreeing a lot. My comments weren't meant as an attack on anybody. If anything, I wanted to point out that 'Why did you kill me?' is kind of the wrong question. Good questions would be (again,in my opinion):

- Why do some people kill easy targets on sight when they are depending on other players to enjoy their gaming experience?

- Why let yourself be killed by other players if being killed isn't something you enjoy as a gaming experience?

There's some mutual reinforcement of bad habits going on that isn't helping either side, and I think both sides need to acknowledge that the 'target' group has more power because they can deny others their preferred game style simply by not showing up. PvP needs cooperation to be fun for both sides, but neither victim blaming nor victimization will create a cooperative atmosphere.

I don't know how to solve that problem (there are smarter minds here than mine), but I do believe that the constant mutual blaming and shaming won't get us anywhere. It may sound trite, but a multi-player experience needs multiple players who decide to play together. But unless the PvP side admits that they need the other players, and unless the PvE side stops acting surprised when it voluntarily ends up in a PvP game mode, we're not getting anywhere. :)

Reminds me of the Lorax story with the trees being non PVP players in open.

Lol! Would Mobius be the Lorax in this example? Shepherding all of his swomee swans, brown barbaloots and humming fish, while the PvPers would be the Oncler's family?

*I've been reading The Lorax every night straight for the last two weeks as a bedtime story for the kids:)*

Oh look it's this week's bait thread. Wondered where it had got to.

Can I make the next weeks one?

I give this thread 3 more pages before it has sufficiently gone off-topic enough with name calling and the likes. I kinda want to read through the 5 pages and see how many actually genuine answers were given.

1) What does this have to do with you playing with me? I have Zero interest in playing with you and never thought or suggested it's something that I would want? :-/

Generic "you"... mea ing other people, specifically those who "roleplay psychopaths" or whatever you want to call it to make it sound less concerning. You HAVE expressed an interest is playing with "generic me"... ie: people who don't want to get shot at.

2) I didn't say they shouldn't and I didn't say that everyone should be playing like I said or do, I just said it's stupid to play like that and then complain about getting blown up.

Basic language lesson for you: when you are demeaning of another's choices ypu are implying that they are somehow inferior or incorrect.

Like I said, playing in that manner is basically gambling their ship and cargo - If they feel the risk is worth it then go for it, but don't complain when they get destroyed because of the way they choose to play.

But if we are also talking about not deciding how other people play.....

... and you've decided it's your job to "teach them a lesson" for what you have decided is "stupid' and that they have no right to complain eh? Bully for you. There's a word for people who claim that "They have no right to complain! They were just asking for it, going around dressed like that."

Some people have decided to play like Psychopaths killing anyone and that's their choice, I don't do it myself and don't think it's a great way to play but that is their choice, who are you/the people complaining about and insulting them to say anything? - "You have no right to insult someone for enjoying a different game to you."

Sound familiar?

I didn't though. The question was about their motivation: "Why did you kill me?" I answered that question in a manner that rings true with all the reseqrch on online bullying. You yourself referenced it when you said they play like psycopaths. I at no time said they shouldn't or tried to tell them to change. I might question your motivation for your defencivness here when you claim to not be a part of that group.

Ok, almost page 10. Perhaps we need a poll at this point to ask people who commented whether they knew the OP is actually a PvPer or bothered to check their posting history....

Puts the whole thread in a new light once you know that ;)

I've been coming out in defense of PvPers lately...but I'm forced to admit that their forum presence is, shall we say....kind of mouth breathery.

I'm flying with keyboard and mouse too...
I don't have a mouse. I use my trackpad for headlook. I find using a mouse or trackpad to steer is worse and has too much drift. My "down" and "left" keys also keep falling off. I just need a new machine altogether. This one still stutters on lowest settings.

I wanted to ask the pvpers in the community why they kill other commanders when there is no in game benefit for it.

i got another question, why are you surprised? why are people so naive and dense that they think people won't shoot at them in open? its like going to the slums and unlocking your car and expecting people not to steal it. guess what, some people kill for fun, it's called a psychopath. its not a new thing, they have been around for hundreds of thousands of years.

Aww now why did you say that! This thread has been entertaining me since the OP posted!

Mobius would be a conservation area where no trees can be chopped down.

My point is that there may be no non-PVP players in open in the future as all may have had a bad experience and moved to the conservation area :)
The PVPers are like the people chopping down the trees in the Lorax with no thought for their actions.

if they are Non-PVP, why did they go into a mode that allows nonconsensual PVP? that's like a woman going in a slum area like India knowing that there is legal     , and expecting not to get      .

...Apperently FD is triggered by the R word.

The only answer is: because they can do it and because ED is simple a space ego shooter/simulation/arcade shooter. Kill on Sight. There is no Role that KoSer playing, because you will not find such a rule in such a universum.

Remind me of those people on minecraft who would hack into server just to wipe out people's work and buildings. No point, but apparently it's fun to them.

the thought that some suggest... there is no benefit to crime or PVP??

the infamy that results from ones Cmdr name is the benefit from a crime spree of killing innocent Cmdr's etc.. infamy within the game of Elite Dangerous is something that many a goodie 2 shoes cmdr will never understand.

groups like "THE CODE" never became famous becos of their friendly attitude towards unsuspecting Cmdrs.

Fame is not a commodity that can be easily attained nor can it be mined!!
