E3 2014: Elite: Dangerous Developer Demo

This is brilliant. Loved the moving controls. The spaceport is gorgeous. The 'treelined avenues' sound cool.

The safe disengage distance seems to be 1000km now too. Kinda cool.

Many good things to come it seems. :D

Good I didn't pick up on that. I saw the new supercruise meters which may help too!

Then talks about magnetic alignment fields to automatically align the ship to the port.

 :( I hope it's optional. Really scares me. Feels almost perfect as is and almost too easy. Though, I haven't parked in anything larger than an eagle. Maybe it will only be for big ships.

Stunning, thanks for the peek. It was really noticable how you were sitting above the Galactic Plane with the dust extending below the system when flying, just spectacular.

Oh my, things are really beginning to come together, so happy to be part of this. Cheers FD! :D

I really enjoyed watching that vid on gamespot. The new station looks great and I can't wait to see the next build.

I'm a bit at odds with the idea of making docking easier. I think Frontier have done a wonderful job by creating a great docking experience. We had a discussion in the DDF a while back about it potentially being overly repetitive and I've docked hundreds of times and never seem to get bored of it. I always find myself trying to do a really clean dock. In fact the station experience as a whole is amazing.

At the end of Alpha I tried several of the larger ships and didn't have a problem docking any of them. The Anaconda was the more tricky one because its a little hard to judge where the bottom of the ship is and its a long ship so that needs to be allowed for when clearing the opening. However, if there is an issue docking larger ships its got to be with collisions with other ships.

I'm sure Frontier know what they are doing hey.. ;)

Definitely try a Lakon before worrying too much. Right now you can go slow and steady right down the center and still blow up if a little bit of lag spins the station on you just 10-20 degrees! A little more assist there to compensate for lag would be a godsend. 100% agree it should be a challenge, but it shouldn't be unfair either.

that clothes rack does orient you to the gate in the current build, I was going in on my sidewinder almost 90 degrees out of rotation and it spun me into orientation at the last moment. Thinking on it I was traveling slower than I usually do going in so I wonder if above a certain speed it doesn't work?

talk to me when you dock a Lakon or Anaconda. Though not super hard, you definitely feel like you earn your docks in those bad boys :)

Needs a NSFW Geekgasm warning.

So next build we know has some UI changes

1000KM and 1000KM/s --- And I found that 200/200 was a walk in the park. I don't mind easy buttons, but there are easy and then EASY. :(

As said by someone ,earlier I hope it's optional. I don't mind it at all if it can be turned off. ;)

Personally I think the reward for popping out of supercruise closer will grant you an extra km or so closer to the station. This would mean if i drop out at 1000kms I would appear 50km from station. If i drop out at 200 you get 20km. 100km and 10km and so on.

Yeah, I think 500:500 would be a better sweet spot. 200:200 was borderline annoying, and 1000:1000 seems like it would be pretty casual. Still, I'm glad that they are working on it.

Good idea, I was talking about the "assistance" in general, like docking assist and this too but, you have a great idea here.

Awesome! Can't wait 'til we get our hands on this...

But Day-han, ***?! Anyone else been pronouncing it Da-han in their head all this time? :D

Aye, been saying Da-han as well :)

The new systems are looking superb, so many nice things in that E3 build.
