Improving a system's economy by providing demanded commodities?

Is it possible to improve a system's hidden stats (wealth, standard of living, etc) by providing its commodity markets with items they have a high demand for?
 
This place needs a BGS sub, so that stuff doesn't get buried.

Exactly, we've been discussing that in the BGS thread which is why I didn't post this there: If FDev sees a lot of threads about the BGS they will be more likely to make a subforum for it.
