Engineers Double your displeasure, double your grind.

Lovely Tiana (Mis)Fortune,

Locked away behind an Achenar permit that requires acquiring Squire rank with the uppity Imps,

Plus the 50 decoded do-dads,

Plus the RNG at the shop,

All for the FSWS and KWS grade 5, 'cause I do not carry everything all the time, just buy it, use it, sell it,

If they really wanted to offer a USEFUL mod, why didn't they include sensors, one of the most bloated pieces of rigging; 8A, 160t, range 7.68 km, 6A, 40t, range 7.2 km. Really, 120t for a gain of .42 km?

In the future, BVR radar doesn't exist.

Give us a sensible mod.

Sensors!

You can scan a planets complete composition with a 1.30T module from 800LS. Your auto-docking computer requires 340000W of power (using Pentium 4's apparently). 160T Scanners unable to detect an object the size of a destroyer beyond 7.68km when modern radar can monitor a flock of birds in an atmosphere beyond 600km.

1. Squire rank? WOW! Much rank. Such difficulty. Long grind. [/doge meme]
2. decoded whatever is easy to get
3. if her upgrades are so useless to you then dont bother unlocking her. Nobody said that you have to.
4. At least we now have a lightweight mod for life support. Be grateful for that.

White Knight to the rescue! Your moniker is very apt.

I guess you're not big on sarcasm, but you're doing fine as an apologist.

Elite Dangerous is a time consumer game... its not new ! In same time it's its major content !

Not so much. Seriously, compared to Qwent, that is a cakewalk. And Qwent is just a roadblock for Palin...

Z...

One of the reasons I stopped playing: We were supposed to get simulator.

Instead, we get an MMO with pseudo sim flight mechanics, wherein literally NOTHING makes ANY mechanical or logical sense at all.

Instead of competing corporations selling thrusters, FSD, Scanners, etc with different focuses and enhancements, we get generic components with vertical progression grades. Seriously, why do E, C and B even EXIST? They are useless.

Instead of Engineers that want to get paid to tweak our existing stuff (like those Vietnam era engineers who inspired the idea did) we get a typical, WoW style materials grind, yanked from a trad fantasy MMO where it was ALREADY annoying, tedious and done to death, and placed into this game, where it is all of those things, as well as completely nonsensical.

At this point its probably a good thing they have not introduced Season 3. I doubt they have a sufficient number of players left who would pay for it, and rightly so.

Lol, DragoonKnight a white knight? [wacky]

Okay, I've got it. Insult people who have a different opinion. Sure, no problem: You, OP, are a dingleberry.

Let me know if I did it right.

Thought I heard the 'bugle of indignation'!

LOOOOOL, do you receive a signal in the sky - a la Batman - every time a paying customer chooses to express their valid contrary opinions? :D

Insulting a random person is 'valid contrary opinions' now? I dont care much about the OP, didnt even comment on it, but calling DragoonKnight a 'white knight' is downright absurd. And yes, I do receive a signal in the sky. Not like Batman, I am Batman. or Batgirl, if that tickles your fancy more.

These new engineers do seem pretty bad to my eyes, basically the lamest mods to the lamest equipment nothing exciting with real gameplay impact just busy work to make minor tweaks.

Come on you know its lame that lighter life support is the peak of excitement :p, I will be following DragoonKnights advice and not unlocking anyone but the plasma guy as it just doesn't seem to be worth even busy-work time. I could spend the same time gathering mats to reroll some other mod on my ship and get greater effect than anything some of the new engineers offer.

Let me get this straight, you are expressing righteous dismay over my use of a common term that describes someone who defends, regardless of opinions to the contrary, in this case, the actions of a software company to release software that could have been executed differently or in a more effective fashion, correct?

As a number of respondents to this thread have posted, they are in agreement with my original comment, plus I have received a number of reps as well, so maybe I wasn't off the mark. And I did use sarcasm, which apparently isn't understood as to its intent by some of the readers of this thread, to poke fun at the current state of the game, even DragoonKnight makes a reference that we should be happy with the life support mod, one mod out of how many? Is that because so many of the mods are really weak tea?

Example: What about the repetition that the whole mod process entails? I mean one engineer offers 1 through 3, then if you want 4 and 5, you go to another one, you have to go through the same process of 1,2,3 to get to 4,5. That is unnecessary filler. And sometimes unavoidable.

I am not the only one who has voiced their concern over the way some of these upgrades have played out, and most CMNDR's do so because the game has so much potential that it is discouraging to see these upgrades be so watered down, so, we express our opinions.

A "dingleberry"; Isn't it a bit hypocritical to be calling someone a name because I "called" someone else a name? So "insulting" is OK for you but not for others?

The term "White Knight" is proudly displayed by some CMNDR's in their signature and may or may not be an insult to all, TBH.

Let me know if I got it right.

Don't even bother biting their bait. It's obvious hypocrisy going on with them. I will however, have to agree that while your point is razor sharp, the example/RNGcasino giver looks to be one of the least grindy to achieve access to. I personally am still waiting for the game to turn back into more of a game than a casino before I install it again, if ever, due largely to the RNGineers and the they brought aside from all the other broken elements like multiplayer. But again, don't take fandoy-bait, it's like arguing with a fool.

1) You can string literally any combination of words together and get some rep from people. Try it: start a topic in the Engineers forum and say "I like engineers", make another topic in Horizons forum and say "I dont like Horizons". It means nothing.
2) DragoonKnight has been rather critical of many aspects of ED, and he is not ashamed to say it. A white knight is not someone who defends something 'regardless of opinions to the contrary, because then everyone who likes something about anything is a white knight.
3) Calling someone a white knight/hater/troll/whatever is a cop-out. Rather than respond to the arguments of DN, you just start namecalling.
4) Some people like being called a dingleberry, TBH.

As for getting it right: its much better this time. You used arguments and didnt resort to namecalling. So how about we keep this topic going like this and keep the 'anyone who disagrees with me is a troll/hater/fanboy/white knight' mentality at the door? :)

It could be safe to assume that any advanced space ship also has some kind of radar jamming or signature masking suite by default, not to mention the interference from your own drive and shields. Though we can scan ships from quite a distance when frame shifted. Also, we can detect signatures from quite a bit further away, but we can't lock on and do a detailed scan (that goes as far as scanning weapons and utility slots) and target weapons until much closer.

I can spot a fighter sized target at nearly double the range of Elite's sensors even under severely adverse ECM conditions, using a number of methods.

The sensors are a game mechanic to keep it a WW 2/Korean War furball.

I appreciate a good argument as well as the next person, what got me with DragoonKnight was the I should be grateful for one of the few useful mods that came with this update, and, the tone of his post was condescending. I have played over 1,900 hrs in this game so I'm not in a Sidey anymore. I don't need to be grateful to expect someone (FD) to do their job and put out a good product. What FD is doing is extending the life of their product by really stretching out desired improvements over the longest period of time possible. That is their business model, to keep players playing, but leaving them wanting for more. However, a major part of the way they do that is the "grinding" that everyone loves/hates, hence the reference in the post.

The other old saw he used is, if you don't like it, don't do it. Well, for better or worse the "grind" is built in most, if not all, of the features of the game. Want to build up rep with a faction/power, do missions/bounty hunt/sell cartographic data, a lot of it. Want to become elite combat, kill 10,000 ships+, same for trading, exploration, etc. That is a stock response I've read dozens of times.

Regarding your points, you are being dismissive of the valid opinions of CMDR's who have participated in this thread, your opinion and any other opinion, is valid. That this post has garnered me the most rep points I have ever been awarded is a fact. It is disingenuous to simply state that you can say "blah, blah, blah" and people will rep you for it.

Regarding name calling, I never said "DragoonKnight, you are a White Knight", I sarcastically characterized him and his response, the same response I have observed being described by others the same way. That I didn't engage him in a more polite manner? Well, if he had been keen to discuss the basis of my sarcastic post, which from the tone and content of his reply he showed little interest in doing, I would have gladly done so.

You may have or may have not noticed that I have not used any derogatory terms directed towards you and I won't, because inflammatory rhetoric hardly ever accomplishes anything constructive. However, literary devices are sometimes quite effective, I would have never thought that my innocuous post would have received any attention whatsoever. So I must have strung an effective combination of words.

I will conclude my participation in this thread, feel free to respond and I will be polite and read it, but will not respond further.

"Warp Drive, engage!"
