E3 2014: Elite: Dangerous Developer Demo

I noticed that the Anti Aliasing has improved a lot as well. This is a nice thing.

Wow i thought the same thing too! i even double checked if my settings werent max on that department because i was like holy crap no jaggies inside the dock area.

The "SLOW DOWN" HUD warning on approaching the destination in SC annoyed me on sight; it would be useful the first couple of times you use SC, and after that it's the nanny state in your flight software.

Anyhow, it's like a warning painted on the road when approaching a UK roundabout. Maybe it should be rendered in wireframe on the system's orbital plane, anamorphically distorted so you can read it. Perhaps there will be 3-2-1 junction countdown indicators as you approach the safe disengage zone too.

Personally I think the reward for popping out of supercruise closer will grant you an extra km or so closer to the station. This would mean if i drop out at 1000kms I would appear 50km from station. If i drop out at 200 you get 20km. 100km and 10km and so on.
+1 for this.

Personally I was happy with the 200:200 distance/speed window of exiting Super Cruise and didn't have a problem hitting that mark. But if FD are going to simplify this to make it easier for new players, then it would make sence that there should be a reward for those who have managed to nail their Super Cruise flying and exits as it will ensure that it remains a skill that needs to be learned and honed.

It just goes to show that positive reinforcement of game mechanics are just as necessary as criticism as the message sent to FD can skew the perception that all players are finding something difficult when perhaps it isn't the case.

Anyhow, great E3 Dev video Guys..... and we're back on topic. :)

+1 I really like this idea!

"We are trying to make docking slightly easier." -DB.

Then talks about magnetic alignment fields to automatically align the ship to the port.

 :( I hope it's optional. Really scares me. Feels almost perfect as is and almost too easy. Though, I haven't parked in anything larger than an eagle. Maybe it will only be for big ships.

I dunno, any aids *which make practical sense* I am game for.

and lets face it, a crashed anaconda would do a lot of damage to a station in terms of cost to repair so, electromagnetic rings sounds like a no brainer to me in the health and safety side of things.

I imagine it will only have an effect if you get close, so in theory should not effect the smaller ships at all.

New station is gorgeous, really looking forward to see its own interior (as depicted by Mr Braben) as for now it's quite the same as the Coriolis model (except for the control towers)

Really neat improvements in all areas, I can't wait to put my hands on the next build.

About the 2 steps of hyperdrive he made towards Eranin, maybe he just wanted to show you can cancel a jump mid-trip and actually stop by and explore the vastness of the space anyway you want?

My car will apparently display a SLOW DOWN warning if my transmission gets too hot!

Note to self - must change the friction fluids in my Cobra and replace the foglamps with cooling ducts before the next beta release!

Wow terrific video, really loved seeing the new station for the first time. And did anyone notice official confirmation of the games release at the end of the year? So there is a an end date in site, which if all goes to plan could mean we're going to see some impressive advances in the things going on and with our feedback will continue to shape this game to be the best it can be - when that release happens.

Nice one FD

Great vid!
Beautiful new station!!

Of the station I just thought, if it's still rotationally generating 1G at its outer circumference - and that circumference has a much greater diameter than a coriolis, wouldn't that require a slower rotation? Meaning that the gravity in the docking cylinder - which seems to be about the same diameter as that of a coriolis - would have a rather lower gravity.
Is that right?

My grasp of physics is fuzzy and 'Heisenbergian' ;) - so I'm probably talking out of my cloaca!
