Black smearing and colour banding creeping back

All good points - is the fact that we can't really get decent screenshots of the visual result in a Rift part of the problem?

I can't test atm, at work. I thought it was the shaders. Kudos to those who've done more work than I mucking about with video settings etc.

Yes. It makes it harder to report any bugs because it's more difficult to take a screenshot of the stereoscopic VR rendered image. Taking a screenshot of the desktop version is useless because it's rendered differently. We have to resort to telling oculus or the software devs what to look for and hope it's repeatable when they view with their own VR device.

Not sure if it was the Ed update or the Oculus runtime update but my colors have tanked over the last week. This needs to be resolved

My colours are unchanged. Still poor gradients around/near sun coronas etc (not as bad as the Moon/lunar theatre Kapow mentioned (thats bleeding awful!).

Does the Vive still get this banding? It uses the same panels, so its happening somewhere in software (or firmware). I thought we left 16-bit colour back in... about 2003?

Am I the only one seeing banding and black clipping (also impossible to see the smoke when I get close to a star and overheat), NOT using a Rift, but just pc monitor (calibrated)? I got back to ED after almost two years and the graphics was not like this. What happened?

Not seeing smoke is wierd. What detail settings are you running with?

Ultra.
The smoke comes out but the colors make it some sort of invisible. Overall, there are problems rendering very dark gradients (transparency against black, deep space gradients, etc.).
The only hw/sw change I did in these two years is the monitor calibration device. At the moment I believe ICC profiles v4 are not recognized by the game, as well as by Windows 7 Photo Viewer. Maybe I'll give a try creating an ICC v2 profile.
