I feel robbed !

Thank you all for your advice and comments on the vive and ed.

I did spend time setting up the adjustments available for the headset
After the initial shock of the quality of picture I gave it another go in ed and tried to get used to it
It's what it is I guess and once I was over the shock I had a bit of fun with the immersion
Il try the green hud again because the "God rays " bug me a lot but getting used to green friendly icons now red will be hard to get used to.

Last night I played a few other games Lab , the chair, and had great fun.

I'm gona be honest about ed, I been playing on monitor but was having issues with my eyesight,I though vr would solve this but I'm long sighted and one eye is getting worse than the other so time to visit an optician.

Not really ever needed to wear glasses before but I'm almost 60 now so I guess it's all downhill from now on

Being long sighted, as I am too, is not a problem in VR.

:mad:

Bought a vive for not a lot of change from £800 [mad]

What a piece of garbage I have went through all the "steamVR beta, ed profiler etc setup to get best picture.

Imo the picture is not any better than the original elite from 84 on a CGA setup.
I can't believe this is new technology the graphics are at best terrible, all I can see is blurry pixelated out of focus RGB.

If I was to see a vive at the car boot sale I wouldn't give you £50 for it[down]

You can make it a better by tinkering with the HUD colours, graphics settings and changing the rendertargetmultiplier in steamvr.settings. It's not perfect but still an amazing experience.

On a side note - as a new vive user I cannot recommend the apollo 11 VR experience enough. Particularly if you're into space! It's still my favourite VR experience ever.

This.. Everyone I've made sit through Apollo 11 has been blown away, it's brilliant

All previous points are valid. Also, Elite on Vive sucks a bit because its supersampling is, well... crappy to say at best. People had better results turning in game supersampling to 0.75, and then forcing supersampling in steam VR. More info here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/274325-How-to-get-Elite-in-VR-looking-CRYSTAL-CLEAR-D but the bad news is 2.2 botched things up again :( There are lots of threads out there in the forums, but the bad news is, elite is simply botched in the Vive, because other games do not suffer as much from that. Also, a better card helps because it allows you to turn on all sorts of antialiasing techniques which help.

Having compared VR Elite on DK2 and Vive, I have found that the text is more blurry on the Vive, because of its so-called sweet-spot (which is an area which stays clear when you look straight). God rays are a bit annoying in the stations, granted. But having said that, it is not game-breaking deal, really, and added depth really makes the game shine. Also there are pros of the low resolution - ships are bigger and easier to hit compared to a few pixels on a FullHD screen.

- Last week SteamVR got two patches. They are both in BETA, make sure you have them, they make a big difference in avoiding stutter.

- Having a Geforce 1070 (mobile version) with the new SVR Beta, it is now very decent on High VR setting in the options menu.

- Since I got the VIVE, I do not wish to play ED on a screen anymore either, unless on one of those big curved 4 k monitors... maybe.

- I have set my text color to white which improves the legibility enormously, but might be too bright for some folks.

- Check your IPD (by a professional or by using a test) it really makes a difference. Set that IPD with the on the right side of the HMD.

Here is a guide as to where you can change the colors of the gui when ED gets a new patch:

Here is my color config:

<MatrixRed> 1, 1, 1 </MatrixRed>
<MatrixGreen> 0, 1, 0 </MatrixGreen>
<MatrixBlue> 0, 0, 1 </MatrixBlue>

I have got it a lot better now, I had neglected to edit the steamvr file and add the multiplier line.
I set it to 1.5 and wow what a difference, I also had vive background stuff running I needed to disable with in game ss at 0.65 and hmd at 1.0 it looks sweet,but with massive frame drop so 1080 in the post

Glad to be of help ;-) Also, 1080 is a sweet sweet OVERKILLLLLLL (in the Unreal tournament announcer voice), but if you got the money, its currently the best what you can get. Although there will be 1080Ti launch in January so you may want to wait a bit with that. GL & HF with your vive (sooo envious, got neither enough space nor cash [IRL expenses piling up recently] :) )

On side note (not on topic, sorry) this above method don't work anymore for me and I had to update directly the GraphicsConfiguration.xml file in the game directory with my colors value. I checked the ...\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics\GraphicsConfigurationOverride.xml and it still fine. It was working and overriding settings previously to update 2.2.

And BTW I love the Neon Blue (grabbed somewhere):
<MatrixRed> 0.2, 0.05, 2 </MatrixRed>
<MatrixGreen> -0.15, 2, -0.5 </MatrixGreen>
<MatrixBlue> 1.75, -1, -0.3 </MatrixBlue>

It probably changed the <GraphicsConfig> tag at the begining of the file to a self closing one like this: <GraphicsConfig />, because it still works fine on my end. It is easy to overlook if you don't know how XML works :) Here's mine for comparison:
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<GraphicsConfig>
<GUIColour>
  <Default>
    <LocalisationName>Standard</LocalisationName>
    <MatrixRed> 0, 0.25, 0.75 </MatrixRed>
	<MatrixGreen> 0, 1, 0 </MatrixGreen>
	<MatrixBlue> 1, 0, 0 </MatrixBlue>
  </Default>
</GUIColour>
<GraphicsConfig />

Or EDFX for that matter, doubles also as a nice utilities launcher.

Spot On, you're right, mine have the extra '/' where you put it <GraphicsConfig />

Thanks! :)

Edit: And I'll retry the Profiler as suggested, last time I tried I had a weird error and didn't go further.
