Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

It's good to know that at least three people here are enjoying NMS.
I tried to like it honestly, but then I met my first p***s alien and had to shut the game down.
Haven't played it since, not that I'm missing out on much.

Fly safe commandos o7
Yep, its like most other games, you either like or dislike it. There are players in the middle of that example, but few (I think). ;)

I just saw off 7 pirates, that was pretty exciting. ;)

Plus I got to hang out with these cute guys yesterday.

Oh.. and they pooed me some resources. Took my rubber gloves, of course..[yesnod]

When I went to the aid of the huge ship I posted above I had to tackle about 30 or so pirates!!! I've never recharged my shields so much and almost exhausted my supply of zinc and titanium! Not as good as Elite but pretty damn good.

I have NEVER seen a creature like that in all my hours!!! Clearly still so much more for me to see! Do they "poop" out the resources or "dig" them up I've never been able to work that quite out!?

I think virtually all titles are ripe for a knock down price, at some time down the road. This will be no different, it will fall in price at some stage, probably if/when they have come out regards updates. If they have a big content update the price won't move much for a while. If it seems that the next update is going to be a final one, for some reason (hopefully not), then the price will fall quite a lot, I guess.

But this game, if your into exploring, is worth every penny. Well certainly for me it has been, I love exploring space/planets, this is more for the planet side which is agreed. But that may also change if they choose to flesh out the space side a little more.
Exploring wise, nothing quite like it.

Regards worth it.. I say 'for me'.
But I have to say, it comes down to what you want to spend, or indeed can spend. If you don't want to spend that much, simply wait, more or less everything drops in price as time passes. I bought into ED for £150 way back, so its @ £19.99 now on Steam. But I still wouldn't have waited for that price drop. If people want things, they tend to spend on them. I do...
It goes for many games I own. 'Early in', doesn't always mean saving later...
:)

I get most of my games via steam sales, I must admit I'm surprised no NMS sales has been offered yet....dunno if that means it's still actually selling or whether they are waiting for the toxic community effect to reduce (I have no doubt it'll never subside to nothing as there is far too much butthurt going on with some people).

gotta agree with you on it regarding exploration and it's definitely worth it for me too.

It's very much a "marmite" game and that's where the marketing went wrong I think (apart from the MP fiasco).

For me, the reason I'm not playing NMS has nothing to do with the price. It looks like a great game and it had an aesthetic that appeals to me. I not playing it because I'm too busy playing Elite. There are bits of Elite I'm not playing because there's other bits of Elite that I'm too busy playing.

It's like I'm sat at a table shoving my face full of cake, and I'm looking at the rest of the cake and saddened by the fact that I can't shove it in my face as well, because my face is too full of cake... And the the waiter comes along with the suite trolley and I'm looking at all the lovely desserts whilst still shoving cake in my face.

Mmmmmmmm cake.

I sit at a similar table. However, I just take a small slice of whichever cake takes my fancy. There are a few cakes that I like on the table and I'll eat a little from all of them, depending of course, if I'm still hungry or not.
I like variation. ;)

They poop them out, well at least that is what I think I read, that HG wrote.

I'm constantly dabbling with other cakes too!

Ah so it's "poop" then.....fit's the bizarre nature of the game at times! ;)

That is the dumbest thing I've heared all day. I can describe exploring in NMS without actually landing too, would make just as much sense.

A much fairer description would be to say NMS is a low-detail but larger-area version of Subnautica, with bland space gameplay serving as a loadscreen. Elite is for people who want to explore space, NMS for people who want to explore alternate earths. Both have their place. You can play both, one of them or none of them without being ridiculous about other games. Or calling other people 'white knight' because they use arguments, proof, evidence and common sense.

This is what space looks like: http://i.imgur.com/Dc2rACy.jpg

And as far as gameplay is concerned: I can find bases with much more variety on planets, find resources for crafting and scan things. I can find unique things, puzzling riddles. Its not ideal, but its pretty identical to NMS, which is why one of the main criticisms of NMS is that the gamplay is fairly limited on planets. And where ED has a whole game besides that, with NMS there is nothing else. Thats why the people here defending NMS often say its 'a walking simulator', and 'relaxing' or even 'meditative'. All fine, but its not 'exciting gameplay'.

Its an exploration game what were you expecting? It was never supposed to have that kind of gameplay you are bashing it for not having.

Well, considering SM explicitly said it was NOT a walking simulator, and described that gameplay, which we eventually got, as 'absolutely boring', I guess I just expected what he said we would get. Space was supposed to be real, with proper physics. Wildlife would have a myriad of believable and interesting behavioral patterns. There would be different galactic factions, and your choices would influence the story and influence the politics. There would be massive fleet battles. Instead we got a game that looks 10-years old, has a PG system that is as close to 'random' as it gets, has no politics, no story, no fleet battles, no wildlife behavior, no real ecosystem, no nothing. It is exactly what SM said it would NOT be: a walking simulator with zero challenge or difficulty. For a full list of the promises and what people expected: https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/4y1h9i/wheres_the_no_mans_sky_we_were_sold_on_a_big_list/

So to answer your question: I expected a game that had the gameplay he explicitly, literally and factually said we would have. If this stripped-down fragment of a shadow of a game appeals to someone: good for them. :) The rest of the world is not impressed with this.

This is interesting, a little snippet of info. We only have snippets at the moment to listen too.

I tried to link from the correct time.. It didn't work, so go forward to 35mins.

I really hope that HG are pushing forward with the game. It seems they are and that the first 'new' content release may be something that will; a/ take time & b/ be very interesting when released. I can wait if the content is going to be a push forward for the game.

For me and others here, the content at present is more than enough, but I think we're all agreed, those of us playing it, that if the game were to be pushed more, it could be incredible in all play areas within the NMS universe. I'm thinking especially the 'space' and maybe even the 'trading' areas. This could be made really interesting, put a different slant on the game and one that, possibly HG had in mind initially, but for one reason or another couldn't get in at release.

The game has so much to offer, fingers crossed it gets even more addictive than it is already. And... It is addictive.. for me anyway. Can't put it down for long, before needing a play of it..

Well atleast that sounded a little more supportive of Sony towards HG vs some previous Sony statements post-release. Still Sony are in the game business and NMS is just a tiny concern for them vs the stable of games they look to profit from. Also i really do think Sean was wise to turn down offers from that host to talk about NMS. That guy keeps going on about he helped release the game (did in that snippet of his interview too), but was quick to join some of the negative initial reactions, so Sean should stay away, he is just there for his youtube ratings rather than try to shed any real light on what went down etc.

We have another patch coming it seems? Nothing official stated (obviously, HG are full radio-silence) but rumours are around. Personally i'd like patch notes for that last update first, i still do not know what that changed.

Interesting comments on that vid cheers for the link! :)

Yeah I totally agree with what you say (again!) If they can improve the space (ship handling is so meh), more ships and slots RELATED to ship size!!, expand the trading as you say....but for the LOVE of GOD I hope they don't ruin it with PvP MP elements that plague Elite (IMO). If they do that I'd like it to be like CQC and a separate part of the game.

HG need support from Sony at this point, I find that people always gloss over the fact that HG are a TINY dev studio.....just look at the credits section of the game!!

HG need to start communicating a bit though....they've gone from one extreme (talking TOO much) to the other (not talking enough).

With a quintillion planets and 300 or so simultaneously playing people I'f be scared of pvp too...

pvp in this game would be so stupid - no penalty if you die (space grave stones), resources everywhere (you can max your stuff on the starter planet) terribly simple space flight controls... why would anyone even want pvp engagement in NMS is beyond me.

I dont really know of anyone who'd want that. But someone here really doesnt want it to happen, so he is making people up so he can then get angry at how 'the haters are butthurt' about it. :p

Seeing as most of the extreme butthurt over the game was multiplayer, I do NOT want HG pandering to that particular sub section of humanity.

I dare say most people didn't care less about multiplayer one way or the other.
The only reason it got brought up so much was because it was the most obvious example of something that was advertised but not implemented. But I guess radicalising a group because of their choice of example is the easy thing to do.

I think any game, no matter how simple people think it is, can be ruined by 'other people'. ED is a good example, solo play is better. SC is unfortunately the same at the moment and probably won't change.
Bad MP does plague lots of games, private servers are by far the best option, then you can play your games with like-minded people.
I play Arma in a group with a private server, its a very different experience from a public one, that is for sure.
