You actually can toggle the look feature on and off. I have it mapped to my HOTAS
What entry on the settings menu did you map to your hotas button?

I think the UI focus options are in the graphics menu, not the control menu. This may confuse people who are looking for them.

I've assigned the UI Focus to a slider button on my X52, I slide UP and panels open when I face them, I slide DOWN and I can move my head around without the panels popping up !! Initially I assigned it tou a regular button but I had to hold it down to look around without having the panels popup, it was inconvenient.

Is there not a toggle or hold option for that feature? I have toggle switches on my Warthog.
they are already doing R&D on that, I would not be surprised if this is already nailed and ready as we get closer to S3
@Psychomorph: on my X52 the slider is on my throttle I do not have to raise/move my left hand, just move my thumb around !![]()
For the record:
To make sure the panels don't pop up go to
Options->Controls->Mode Switches
there you have the 4 panels:
- Looking at target panel
- Looking at comms panel
- Looking at Role panel
- Looking at systems panel
Their popping up can be switched off completely (not showing at all regardless of view direction) by selecting 'do nothing'
However if you want them to show when you hold down a button (or when you rotate a dial in a certain way so you won't need to keep the button pressed all the time) you need to proceed as follows:
- Assign a key (or a thumb-dial if you have a HOTAS throttle) to the UI FOCUS button.
- Set the UI FOCUS MODE on DIRECTION
- Then set all 4 panels above to FOCUSES THE PANEL
Rotating the dial or holding the button will now show up the panels, and if no button is pressed or the dial is completely 'rotated in the off position' you have a clear and unobstructed view regardless where you look at.
Hope this helps
Thanks for this but unfortunately I don't have a Dial so I need to keep a button pressed to not see the Panels, this obviously is pointless/useless! I need a way for the Button to be Toggle able, so ON = Panels Appear and OFF = Panels Don't Appear. I've looked but cannot seem to make this happen so unless I'm missing a key binding somewhere then it needs the Devs to add.
What controller are you using?
Xbox360 + steering wheel, nothing that can work like a Toggle/Switch unfortunately.
The slider on the X-55 throttle doesn't register in Elite for me so I've got UI Focus mapped to an ordinary button. I just wish we could set it to toggle mode.
Not a great experience with rubbish controllers like that. Always use the right tool for the job. Have a look at voice attack as that might be able to generate and hold a key stroke.

Agreed. If you have an old joystick you could disable the centering spring and use it as a toggle switch until FD get this fixed.
