A couple words about the weapons color now available: Horse Armor

I don't get the reference.

"Horse Armor is a downloadable content (DLC) package containing armor that could be placed on a player’s horse for the Xbox 360 release of the game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. After being heavily mocked by the gaming community, the term “horse armor” became associated with useless and overpriced DLC packages."

Could have just said 'rice' or 'bling' and we'd all know what it meant. You don't have to buy it.

How is $1.75 overpriced?

For a weapon color? Call me poor but, holy Horse Armor Batman. I'd maybe pay $1.75 for all seven, but I doubt it. Pretty shocked it's not just free to be honest. I guess they're making up for the HUD color hack players came up with before they could microtransaction it?

You can find $1.75 on the floor at your average supermarket...

Not in my city. That's a little over $12 for all seven, for what is essentially the same as the HUD hack.

I certainly expect to catch a LOT of flack for my opinion but, this is ridiculous. I'll try to keep off the "Festive" skins while there's so many ships that need skins.

I wanted the Red, to make sure my enemies know it's the Federation cracking their hulls, but I didn't want to pull my CC out for $1.75. So, I bought the Red, Blue, and Green to make it at least over $5.00 and almost worth it. Some people spend more than that on a cup of coffee, daily.

I wanted any color to tell when my NPC AI pilot was shooting when I'm in a SLF, but.....well it's Horse Armor....I might have paid $1.75 for the ability to change between all seven but, no, just no.

I'll wait for the "limited time" plaid for $7 or perhaps the "festive" one that shoots snowflakes for $14.95....

Your choice Commander. I didn't need a thread to tell the peeps I bought three, but took the opportunity when you brought us this gem. Keep your eyes open. It will go on the cheap sooner or later.

I may have bought a "festive" pack that included a festive skin, Christmas tree bobblehead and red/green weapon colors.

That the issue with this, it's cheap, and not in the inexpensive meaning of the word.

Then every bit of completely cosmetic items they have is horse armor. Would you rather all the cosmetic stuff be free so FDev has zero source of income to continue working on the game? Or would you prefer a pay to win package?

None of the above, if I hadn't paid $150 already I would probably buy the "seasons" to provide a source of income for FD. That's what, IMO, makes this cheap Horse Armor. FD has a source of income, seasons etc. that they will be charging for.

Here's an idea" add things like this in the game, without microtranactioning us to death and people will probably buy the seasons...

I know I'm going to catch a lot of crap for this thread and my opinion, but this feels so "cheap" and horse armorish to me

I'd buy them all immediately if I wasn't thousands of LY from the nearest outfitting screen. I'll probably only use the blue and cyan ones, but it's nice to have options.

For the record, i own a few ship skins. Always happy to throw FD a few bones when I can afford it. I seriously doubt I'll buy these though, it just feels wrong to me...

So was the Horse Armor....

One of the reasons Horse Armour was mocked was because we hadn't seen anything like it before. The gaming community knee-jerked at the idea of incredibly cheap dlc that was essentially low-key and optional. We used to hate micro transactions.

These days it is entirely normal. The same sentiment no longer applies. Truth is that Horse armour was a pretty okay dlc. It added some cosmetic fun if you felt it was worth the price. If not? Well then don't buy it.

I do understand that even £1.75 can be expensive for some people, I don't begrudge you that, but if I had a list of all the things in the world that I could say ''I want to buy this but it is too expensive'' then they would have to invent new forum technology to keep up with all my posts.

in short: It is purely cosmetic and generally quite cheap. However if you cannot justify the price for the product then don't get it.

We QQ'ing over $1.75 in 2016?

It's cosmetic. If you can't afford it, don't worry; it has no impact on the game or its playability. You can safely continue on as if this modification didn't exist and your experience will not change.

Want it? Support the devs a little. $1.75 is literally pocket change.

But that's the problem isn't it? Seasons are sparse, so, aside from the late buyer (and lets be really honest here, there isn't a lot of people buying into this game aside from people already playing and maybe a few people that we convince along the way), they have nothing in between those seasons. So what happens if FDev hits a rocky season like Horizons is, bugs and delays galore? Time to pack it in and hope Star Citzen gets released or No Man's Sky gets a content update?

If FDev had a big name producer, someone who makes tons from other titles and marketing, I'd agree with you, but they don't; and with all the time and resources they have sunk into Elite Dangerous, there isn't much else the company has.
