Ships Imperal Clipper or Vulture?

I am in a bit of a quandary as to whether I buy a Imperial Clipper and outfit some of it with the money I have saved up. Or outfit my Vulture that has yet to be used. I already own a Vulture but never had the cash to outfit it correctly to a standard I would be happy with. Now I have around 100 million credits I feel its time to upgrade from my Imp Courier to either the Vulture or go straight for the Clipper.

If I go for the Clipper I won't be able to afford to upgrade it to the standard I would like for it to be a multi-role ship. But I can make a good bounty hunting and CZ Vulture.

This is the build I would aim for on the Clipper https://coriolis.io/outfit/imperial...d2tv62i2f.Iw18aQ==.IwBhrSu8KA==?bn=multi role

This is the build for the Vulture https://coriolis.io/outfit/vulture/...w19kA==.EwBhrSs0g===?bn=bounty hunter vulture

The Vulture I can make right now and be safe in the knowledge it will work well.

The Clipper would take time to get to the full build as I am around 50 million short to actually do it. Although I would always give myself room for insurance buys.

What do you guys think?

Yeah, the build above is very close to what I have on my clipper -- though it was mostly meant as a fun diversion ship for smuggling VIPs, bounty hunting and general tomfoolery. I would highly recommending modding the shields and boosters; clipper is a big ship with notoriously weak shields, so every little bit will help.

I also would not recommend large beams. Very cap hungry. I used Gimbaled burst on mine and was relatively happy, but you might want to go with one fixed for those pesky chaff spammers. (I try to roll with a fixed weapon or two on every ship, saves me a lot of frustration.)

The best part of it all, is that going with something similar to the build posted above will leave you with enough money to kit out your vulture too!

I'm not a big fan of the Clipper as a pure combat vessel.

- Worst weapon convergence of any ship in the game. It's gimbal weapons or bust and chaff wrecks your day.
- Weak shields + weak hull
- Big fat target, easy to hit.

Works better as a pirate or armed trader IMO. Because of that, I'd say just invest your money in the Vulture or go for an FAS as a dedicated combat ship. Vulture will max out around 30 mil in credits. Engineer power plant upgrade is essential to finding a variety of fits.

The FAS will eat up that 100 mil but perform better. that's just my 2 cents.

I don't have any ranks in the federation. Also as someone who is rp'ing a Imperial commander I would find it odd to be flying a FAS.
If I was going for a pure combat ship I would pick the Vulture and the next upgrade the fer-de-lance. But this is going to be a multirole ship for doing missions. Such as the courier missions, ground based missions, passenger missions and sometimes the odd assassination ones. Although I do have a Imperial Courier that can do most of the assassination missions.

Also I really don't like the aesthetics of the FAS, reminds me of a flying brick.

The shield strength increase between 7D - 7A is 65 MJ another 0A booster or an L5 heavy duty mod on the current one would generate nearly the same shield strength, TBH I'd suggest a 7C bi-weave or a 6A since the shields will go down fairly quickly no matter what you fit (a ship the size of a clipper really needs shields in excess of 1000 MJ).

I'd also engineer the heck out of them with an L5 thermal or reinforced and a heavy duty L5 on the booster, weapons; possibly rapid fire pulse or oc m-cannons mods might be worth a look

BTW i'm somewhat offended by this comment "Also I really don't like the aesthetics of the FAS, reminds me of a flying brick" it looks a lot more like a smoothing iron ;)

The Clipper is a fine ship with some limitations; the hardpoint placement, weak shields and very limited utility slots make it ill suited for a pure combat role or a 1vs1 PvP-er. Flown and set up right it can be a very good multipurpose ship that can hold it's own when attacked. For this purpose I strongly recommend holding your nose and doing powerplay a bit to grind the prismatic shields, then replace the c7 standard shield with a c6 prismatic. Your shields will be a tad stronger, the generator itself a lot cheaper reducing the rebuy, and it frees up the c7 slot for a 128t cargo rack, a c7 SCB or whatever else the situation calls for.

Go with large multis with incindiary ammo. Pulse on mediums, I'd go fixed. Alternatively all efficient multis makes you able to spray'n'pray with like 1 pip to weaps.

Yeah was hoping to stay away from power play, tried it once and I hate it. Although I would get payed doing it each week I guess.

I could get my Viper up and running for power play and by the time I am at a level where I can actually get the prismatic shield it would of payed for itself from doing power play. Like I mentioned earlier I already have the hull of the Viper its just not outfitted yet.

Ah ok, yea as a multi role ship it is good. You'll find the large landing pad restricting for mission running, but it's internal compartment space makes up for it. Treat yourself as a bit of a snob with missions (fitting for an imperial commander with a Clipper) and it'll serve you well.

Again, it is an excellent pirate ship - the kind that takes the cargo. Take that to Fed space and RP being an imperial incursion agent or something ;-)

I applaud your RP efforts btw.
