It's definitely not the end of the thread, - the whole "let's tweak things and see what the results are, and hope for the best" smacks of incompetence and lack of any clear understanding as to what results they want.

If that really is the case, they really have no excuse for repeatedly screwing this up so badly.
players just want shiny big ships as quickly as possible, there are now other locations where stackable delivery missions between 2 systems are a nice little earner. Heck even unknown artifact and probe collection is now quite good at 3-4 mil per hour of income
Without wanting to insult anyone, the problem seems to be that many gamers now a days rather want a list that tells them a->b->c->d rather then having to figure out stuff themselves, even though they can figure out most of that stuff in a similar way.
Considering they can just experiment in game? read the manual? learn the game in general? and they will figure these things out? they can also instead of "where can i earn most", search...any other term to get help in elite and steps so they can create their own profit rather then just following a guide somewhere.
Who wants to sit in a resource extraction site and shoot at the same old ships for hours, day after day, week after week, just to afford something like an FAS?

That said, it isn't really the individual persons fault, it is how game culture has become of late, people don't as much 'play' games anymore, as they click on something wanting a reward something to show off e.t.c. Or so it can seem.
they don't, lots of stuff pays good. Bulktrading pays good since forever, Bountyhunting pays good for a long time now, CZ's are paying still good and even crazy good when get a couple missions, lots of missions still payed good during the current time of "Oh god, its impossible to make money!" Hysteria. Mining while not the best earner in the game is still not that bad and even quite good if you sell at the right place and mix it up with some missions. Exploring still pays as it always did (....)
Really don't get why recently people freak out so much over credits, lots of ways to make money and even more ways to have fun. Even at the time of release where there really where zero good paying mission and bulk trading was almost the only big earner people didn't freak out that much.
Your having a laugh surely! Mining is a joke for the credits it earns given the effort you have to put in to earn it. Same goes for exploration. You don't do these things for profit because there basically isn't any worth mentioning! With RNGineers, the game now FORCES you to do these things just to gain access. That's not sounding like good game play to me. Nor is it giving me the ability to play the game my way. Frontier have clearly said, it's their way or no (RNGINEERS) way. I spent nearly 2 months scanning planets on a trip out of the bubble. Lord knows how many hours put in... But it was a good number with over 500 first discovered. It paid about 25mil when I got back and cashed in the data. If I made 100k/hr I'd be damned surprised!
This just doesn't inspire me to want to do these things, as they don't enable me to upgrade my ship, let alone buy a decent one.
Yes I made a lot of credits from Sothis and slave trading, but if I hadn't I'd still be in that bloody Asp!
We are in this boat because Frontier put us in it! If making enough cash was easier, would we bother doing 400ly hauls of Biowaste? I doubt it! People do it because they can't face doing months and months of pointless grind just to get a better ship!
Huh. I think that's the angriest thing you've ever said!
An interesting, if probably apt, interpretation... Don't get me wrong, I Love ED. BUT it's inspite of Frontier, not because they are adding great game play!

But mining always paid good for me, couple millions per run and that without mission.
Also not sure what engineers has to do with it, you can happily ignore it if you don't like it. And the whole "better ship" thing is confusing anyway, good ships come already at cheap prices. Bigger doesn't mean better, never did and never will.
Yes you can earn a few mil an hour if your lucky from mining. But it's a tedious slog, at least for me.
As for the RNGineers, many require you to do these professions like mining 500t of ore or flying 5000ly from your starting point. So you either do these things, or accept that you'll never get those shiney G5 Dirty Drives...
As for bigger doesn't mean better, that's horse sh*t and you know it, or we would all be flying around in Sidey's! Not much and harm my Cutter with its tanked Shields and the few ships that could harm it can't mass lock her or outrun her 450 m/s speed... Still want to stick to that lame argument?
You earn a FAS in one or two afternoons that way...
Sometimes i feel like coming back after something new has come out and the devs completely destroys the payout. This happened with rare goods, then smuggling runs, then missions, now passengers. You have all these cool things people can do to make money and have fun and then you nerf it to oblivion and nobody does them. Its not just a minor nerf, the nerfs are so strong that you cannot even make enough to maintain your ship in the case it dies.
I really fail to understand their logic, only thing that ever was op was smuggling missions that needed a slight nerf, everything else was balanced and maybe even needed a buff like passenger high distance exploration missions....
I came back for passengers and after the recent updates I will leave again. I am so sick of this game that keeps pushing me away every time I want to get close to it. It honestly is a abusive relationship at this point.
