Engineers Engineers break my roleplay...:(

So, im playing as a fulltime pirate(PVP and PVE), but to be competaive in PVP I need engineer upgrades.. So I choose the 2 engineers that fit my roleplay, Liz ryder and The Dweller because they are shady characters. Offcourse i want all my modules upgraded so I have to open the other ones, but following the path of Liz Ryder ends me up with an empire grind. Im a pirate for goods sake, already at - rep with them, so this engineer breaks my roleplay because I have to sign up for the Imp navy. Following the other one "The Dweller" ends me up in an being a got damn normal trader, and then it gets me down the path as an explorer, again, im a got damn pirate..... So the game does not want us too pick a career path and stick with it, it always forces us doing something we don't want... The shady engineers should have gotten us down a shady path, the other enginers for other careers...[sour]

Hopefully we will get more engineers with different paths for getting the stuff we need in the future.

A shady engineer that wants you to sign up to the Imperial Navy in order to access their services doesn't mean it's breaking role playing. An engineer also has their own agenda, even if it's against your own character's ethic. Having -rep with the empire through piracy was your career choice and, unfortunately, you will have to adapt and perhaps do something you necessarily don't agree with. That, IMO, is the essence of role playing. :)

The thing is, we already have a path, like Elvira Marthuuk is a nice path for explorers, liz ryder and the dweller is nice for pirates and smugglers, dont know much about the others. Problem is, they immidently break that path as soon as you unlock the next engineer wich takes you in a complete different career direction....

In order to unlock some of the higher level mods for exploration, trading etc, I have had to do stuff that I dont like and am absolute rubbish at eg bounty hunting and combat zones. That is just the way it is so i get on with it and do what i have to. And im actually getting better at the things i dont like and get a sense of satisfaction because i can work this stuff out... but thats me...

I dont know, but my being jack off all trades break my immersion.... I can imagine many would want to roleplay a char like that but mine is a broke space junkie full off onionhead, that hates the empire and feds more than anything:p. I have no problem with people want too doo "everything" in the game, but let us that has a more narrow path in elite be able to not being cannon fodder for the FDL gankers out there...

An enginer telling me "my loyalty now lies with the empire", signing up with her make me feel more like a privateer, expecially after worked for the mob/anarchists for a week to get too her.....

For real?, i never had a exploration scanner ever on my char ships(except using the SRV on the closest moons from my anarchy home station to get some mats, can hardly call it exploring since I bought the map and it's in my backyard), only done smuggling and pirate activities, never ever even dropped into a high res, still can buy every module on the market, so that didnt put me out of my role...

Edit think I misunderstood mod with ship parts bought from the market sorry

Too be honest I wish this enginer stuff didnt exist at all(bacause off the insane unbalance it creates in PVP), and the insane wall off grind just being able to run from the ganker s. but I found a cool shady enginer and I kinda like her "story", worked for the mob and stuff until I met the empire grind wall, wich doesnt suit me very well because of my choosen pledge in PP(e.g undermining Aisling wich happens alot when pledged too Archon, or rather being pledged to him your an enemy for all the major factions.., Wich doesent connect very well either when your think about it, Im working for the pirate king, gets unfrindly status with everyone, but too stay alive(open) I have to double grind. If your an imp your already there, im '"minus rep" god knows how much with booth feds an imps, so my grind wall is twice as large on that enginer, that originally made me work for factions that also gained me a few minuses from the imps...My home faction is also Anarchy, so doing their missons mostly gain me minus, so not only my chosen roleplay work against me, but the game itself in who i choose to support)

A little story offtopic, what kind of personality is there behind a guy(in a wing) that, wait for you for 10-20 minutes that your gonna leave the station, but when your waiting for him to leave and stay in the no firezone he comes and ram you into the wall and killyou because he cant shoot at you with he's uber enginered ship without ever saying why he did it?, never understood that kind of mentality. True story happend one week ago in Kini:p I was so surprised all I could do was laugh, wich brings me back to why i need the enginers, but refuse to work for some of them...
