Engineers FDL max FSD range survey

Managed 18.4 Ly so far.

Also trying to up boost speed, got 539 so far with full combat load out but really want 550 if it's possible

I just got my lvl 5 increased FSD range on my FDL. It's up to 18 lys. Is that average?

whats yours?

I have 19. Something as I also got lucky and had a "optimal mass" also added onto as a secondary effect so it went over the standard maximum amount you can roll

Its also fitted for combat and it's not lightweight at all

max range increase is 50% plus fancy secondaries like more fuel usage etc.

in a totally stripped down, useless build that means a FDL can get >30 ly jumprange.

you can simply multiply your jumprange from coriolis/ edshipyard etc. with 1,5 to see what is possible.

mine does 20,5 ly in a lightweight, but combat ready build.

What's your range is sort of meaningless. It all depends on the loadout. People should be asking "What's your optimal mass and max fuel per jump?", but I guess that's not sexy. :p

From memory I get just over 20ly on a full tank. Think the optimized mass is around a 48.5% increase, also have a lot of weight reducing/saving on the rest of the build so the offensive capability is firmly in the PvE realm.

I've only rolled the rank-5 dice a couple of times on each but my FdL is at just under 19LY and boosts to 503m/s with all the HRP baggage.

You are totally correct! The Optimized Mass spec is really the determining factor in your ultimate jump range potential. Shooting for the MAX OM possible for your given module is what the upgrader needs to pay attention to when deciding when to stop. It is also a good idea to buy a couple of stock modules and ship them to the Engineer base ahead of time, so that you have a few to play with, and won't run the risk of losing what might end up being your best upgrade roll of that session! ;)

Since I use some of my best upgraded FSDs in multiple ships, "Optimized Mass" is all I care about.

The "6" class is used by a couple of my ships. The Anaconda and the Corvette. After spending a great deal of time and several visits to Farseer I managed to upgrade TWO 6As up to and in the case of one of them beyond the listed MAX Optimized Mass spec for the 6A FSD module.

6A number 1 is sporting an optimized mass of 2700 which is the listed max on the actual Grade 5 screen.

6A number 2 through a VERY lucky secondary effect on OM, (which I have only seen that one time) managed to score a 2789 which is I believe about as high as you can go with a 6A FSD.

In terms of how rare that 2789 is? I kept track of all of my Grade 5 FSD upgrade rolls, and it was the only one out of a total of 268 Grade 5 FSD Range rolls to hit that number! :O

The 2700 OM spec of 6A number 1 was hit a total of 3 times out of that total number of rolls with the one I am using having the best overall specs in addition to OM, such as fuel use per jump etc.

But the above examples should give everyone an idea of just how lopsided this whole engineer RNG system really is! It shouldn't take that many rolls to get these results in my opinion! Yeah... Its nice to have a 6A FSD in the top 1% of ED gamers out there, but I think high jump range is something everyone should be able to enjoy, not just a lucky few who spent weeks grinding for it!

But I digress....

So what does that number give you on the actual ships?

When 6A number 2 is used on my fully loaded Anaconda, it can give my traditional A rated build a jump range of 45 Ly. If I want the highest possible... I can get just under 60LY with a stripped down explorer type build. On the much heavier Corvette though, it can only yield 25 Ly with a fully equipped ship. Full shields, weapons everything.

Really wish the Corvette could do better than that, but if that miracle 6A can only do 25Ly, then that is all you can hope to do with that ship and still have it functional for accomplishing its intended purpose as a combat ship. Frontier just made it way too heavy to ever come close to matching the Anaconda for jump range, which is a real shame. :(

That's nuts. My jump range is about 19.5 in full combat build but boost speed was 510 and it dropped to 509 when I switched the chaf to extended magazine....I might ditch the ECM and go back to two regular chafs. What's your armour and shield stats with that top speed? I'm running 50%+ resistant biweaves at 950 MJ and right around 1000 armour. No SCB's and a A4 scoop.

My dd5 roll is pretty average for multiplier (around 27-28 from memory) but my optimal mass is the minimal which is 5% decrease I think. I might try to reroll at some point.

My armour is low, just using the standard light weight armour + small HR (+G5 Heavy Duty) which is about 700 (off the top of my head), my shield is now about 1300. Here's my build:

Everything is engineered to G5 wherever needed and utilities are modded with lightweight. After swapping out 0A to 0E for HD shield boosters now managed 20.4LY jump and 542 Boost

Sort of off-topic, I always used to think that the FdL was one of the fastest ships in game, especially with typical DD5 boosts running over 500m/s, but I'm hearing reports of 800+m/s from imperial couriers.

How do you guys find out stats of ships these days? Coriolis.io doesn't take engineer mods into consideration, which makes decision-making a bit more of a guesswork gamble (for me at least).

Because you are using the wrong Coriolis. The creator of that has had to step away for an undisclosed amount of time but was awesome enough to allow others to use his work to create another site. You now need to use https://coriolis.edcd.io/
