Horizons I'd love to see a 2 or 3x increase in FSD range across the board.

There, I said it.

You wouldn't get any argument from me!

Speaking as the owner of a Grade 5 upgraded Asp X and Anaconda both with jump ranges in the mid 40s, there is plenty of room for additional range to be added to the game and not even make a dent in the travel times to anything outside the bubble. The extended range just makes it easier to get around within the bubble, but once you get out towards the core or the rim, it really makes little difference.

Its really silly to even try to argue against this idea and I suggest you give a 45 Ly range a try before commenting on this subject.

Keep the jump range the same, add tech such as stargates, discoveries of time/space anomalies, wormholes, whatever you can imagine, and my favorite, captured alien travel tech after a tremendous battle to save humanity.

Hey, if we are asking, go BIG!!!

Why not just ask FD to half the size of the galaxy while your at it, it's the same result.

Totally NOT the same result.

Extended range is already available via Neutron Stars and White Dwarfs in addition to the upgraded FSD drives with Engineers. More range would simply open up additional gameplay to more people who don't have 12 hours a day to spend jumping from star system to star system 80% of their session. The Beluga Liner's low adoption rate is a perfect example of how range can affect the game. A pathetically low 22 Ly jump range given to a specialized ship intended to perform 30,000 Ly passenger missions? It can't even do 33 Ly fully upgraded. No wonder no one does those missions using the Beluga.

The love affair some have with needless time sinks never ceases to amaze me.

I had hoped people would comment based on first hand experience with extended range, but obviously that was too much to ask. [rolleyes]

I would have done the new CGs if it was 2 to 3x. As it is i won't.

Yep... My point entirely.

I will continue to enjoy my 3-4 jumps to 155 Ly destinations while the luddites do it in 15. lol

Sanderson, just because you think it, doesn't mean you have to say it like it is a good idea. I mean I have lots of thoughts throughout the day in regard to things id like in ED... I have a thing called a filter so i don't flood the forums with dribble.

Jump ranges are fine as they are, maybe a little tweak here and there, but no we dont need 2 or 3 times the range. The passenger ships are an interesting one, since they have to be balanced, they can't become multirole so they have to fit into a gap carefully. 33LY isn't so bad, the Asp without engineering is only about 35.

what this is honestly about is "I want to be able to go from A to B without stopping off anywhere in between... I want Elite : Easy Mode"

I think it's a good idea, would certainly put the rather rubbish mission payouts back in line a bit. They may even become worth having a bash at.

Well personally for myself I want the glory and badge of the Beagle Point travelers but I don't want to do it in thousands of jumps over a month or more so please can we just forget all about these piddly little jump range increases and just make it so I can get to Beagle Point in three jumps, thank you for listening to my idea, I am sure you will give it the same reasoned thought and consideration we have given yours.

That's nice, you trot off and wear your virtual badge with pride then. Everyone to their own.

Not a bad idea to increase jump range, just remember people, the more range you get, the more fuel you will use per a jump. So while you might be able to go further, you will be making fewer jumps total before needing to refuel. If you top off at every jump, you will be spending more time, even with a high grade 6A scoop.

I just wish I could make a single super jump using ALL of my fuel if I wanted to.

no range incease will tackle the general problem, that if you want to be somewhere, instead of travelling there, the travel is "empty".

i can tell you from own experience. engineeres made all the ships i fly jumping 30 ly+ (beside my FDL). for some usual distance i fly that reduced jumps from 11 to 6, and many destiations are only 4 jumps away in my >45 ly DBE.

basically that only moved the goalpost. now 6 jumps feel like a loooong travel if i simply want to buy some exhaust manifold.

on the other hand, being an explorer, too - i have no problem doing 60 jumps an hour to go to some hypergiant. in that case the travel is what i want to do/ the experience i want to make... same goes for taking part in buckyball racing club races... jumping at maxumum speed... what a great challenge/experience.

because doubling jumprange is no solution, but unbalances and outright destroys the game for many activities, we have to look for something else than that.

Jumping is an activity? I thought it was sleep mode.

Jumping is one of the most grouling tasks in the game, hell even EvE jump/warp/gate mechancis are more interesting, and you can do crap while in transit!
Jump/allign/jump is fine for, like the first 2 or 3 jumps, after that it becomzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......oh I ran into the sun?

There just needs to be a way to get from A to B instantly, even if it costs me a fee to do it and "hop" a transport to my desto.

I mean, a simple system like the ship movement system (btw the timer stuff is stupid, its a game, not IRL scrubs). Where I pay a fee to go to a system, like 10k CR per a LY (aka sothis would be like 4mil if in sol) + 1k a tonn of your current ship. Rules would be fairly simple. Must have at least been (and docked) to that system at least once, and must not have an active mission and not have any cargo. If all conditions are met, I can pay my fee and be in the system I want to be in, ship and all. Would help keep players interested in the game, since they would be more actively DOING something rather then jump, jump, jump, jump, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Again, you MUST HAVE BEEN IN THE SYSTEM AND HAVE BEEN DOCKED to use it, this means you would have had to at least once made the trip to XXX system. This would not kill any part of the game, and would not unbalance things, since you can't take anything with you except for your ship. Call it "autopilot" or whatever, aka your pilot, or paid pilot took the ship to the destination while you took a nap in the back (and no there would be no "timer" I want to be PLAYING the game, not WAITING!).

Jumping is an activity?

if you are up to experience it, check http://www.buckyballracing.org.uk/ for the weekly (shorter) challenges, or go for one of the standing challenges ... you will be surprised how much of a challenge and how much adrenalin this jumping can be....

There just needs to be a way to get from A to B instantly

yes, that would be a solution. i dislike cut scenes, but i like cuts, like in movies....

alas, that would definetly unbalance a hell of things.
