I don't think the PR image is very telling of things, it has the right components but I fear it is all just mashed together in one scene to emphasize the features. After all we haven't found a site that contained the fumaroles in the background either.

So I take it the pillar is just put in the spot to emphasize that their are beacons to be found.

Agreed cmdr...but in the off chance it is real, it's nice to know that this point is actually in-game :)

I just read this in the Known Bugs section of ED Forums.

Planetary Landings

• Sentry skimmers may appear underground
• Some players are reporting being disconnected on approach to engineer base
• Points of interest may react sporadically on the scanner when rolling in your ship
• SRV chair isn't animating in sync with pilot impact animations

am thinking that might be a new Engineer on the Planet everyone keeps CTD`ing on.

I got a surface POI pop on NGC 6383 Sector WJ-Z c7 A 1, LAT 8.3910 LONG 13.7553. It never happened to me before so far out, so I decided to check it out, and found some unknown wreckage. No data point, or cargo, just wreckage. I couldn't identify what it was.

So, just in case, here's a video and screenies. Might be something or might not. If it's a common occurrence these days, let me know and I'll shut up. :)

Looks similar to the poi I found out by the synuefe ruins...couple of materials to collect and a cargo wrack that I could scan but had no data...non persistent unfortunately.

Yea that kind of wreckage is fairly common, at least up to around 10KLY out. Often find a few canisters or escape pods. I explore with a little cargo space to pick up these popsicles.

Dollars to donuts if you keep driving around a while you will also find a crashed nav beacon.

For the record, persistant POIs are what we are really looking for at the moment, so a log out and login and if its still there and even in a different mode report it folks, if not its just standard fare and probably not worth reporting (unless of course its a new procedurally alien related stuff then we can check it out asa community)

Has anyone found that imperial eagle in aloith yet with the exodus documents ?

Yup...did that exact test. Unfortunately not...

I'm wondering if the already discovered 'abandoned research facility 5592' which contains a telescope in the model is unique in having that or whether any other planetary facilities discovered also contain a telescope?

If ED has a limited number of planetary models (Engineers excepted) I would expect to find other sites also containing telescopes and that 'might' suggest the telescope at 5592 isn't significant, however if only 5592 has the telescope then that may be far more significant.

I've been to some of the other planetary sites and whilst the models contain similar structures or SRV wheel tracks I haven't yet found another one with a telescope apart from 5592.

If you find another planetary site with a telescope, please would you let me know. Thanks

Below is a picture of the telescope from 5592

Apologies for off-topic, but there's a Limeric thread on the discussions. I've made two dedicated to the Canonn and desecration of the ruins last week. I urge you all to join in!

Here's the Limericks:

Ode to the Cannon
If you're ever near the Pleiades
You might be searching for ages
"Unknown probes" whisper your lips
As they slowly corrode your ships
So be sure to beware of these ladies

Diode to the Ancient Ruins
To aliens that abandon your sites
Beware 'cos they'll be tourist delights
To scientists, small and bigger
Tomb robbers, and a grave digger
As we know you'll read our last rites

Original here: Elite: Limericks

So apologies for (1) Off topic and (2) my terrible limericks!

This will probably not help anything, but for those who are interested I have put part of the system with the Ruins into the Elite Galaxy Orrery.

http://www.elitegalaxyonline.com/orrery/?system_id=4829

It may be of interest to note that (as viewed from the planet) the main star in the system is eclipsed by the star the planet with the ruins on orbits on the 2nd of December. Could make for some interesting photographs if nothing else ;)

But... if the planet has an axial tilt of -94 degrees and its moon has an orbital tilt of -6.8 degrees (in relation to its parent body's axial tilt) is the orrery representation correct?
