Fiction Sequels?

Sorry if this has been asked before - although I cannot find it mentioned. Are the writers working on sequels to any of the books, or indeed working on any further books sequel or otherwise? I have read 4 of the released books already and will soon run out of Elite fiction!

None of them have a license to produce any more than the single book. Drew explicitly talked about that, but did not rule it out, depending on whatever the future offers.

Wow, 4 books already! I don't know if we could write fast enough to keep up with your Elite fiction fix :D

Tales From The Frontier is still to come so that's another 15 short stories to keep you going, though not for long by the sounds of it :p

I know some of the authors are keen to produce more material in the Elite: Dangerous setting - but that depends entirely on Frontier. They might want to release the game first.

If you haven't already give the authors some feedback or review their books when you get a chance! Encouragement can go a long way to seeing the authors producing more Elite stories.

Well I did notice Lave Revolution is being marketed as the first book in the Lave Trilogy. Which must be made happen.

Its been talked about in a few places, but not in a thread on the forums.

My perspective is that I want to write a trilogy. However, the first book is only just out and Frontier have not yet starting speaking to any of the writers about follow up work.

Nevertheless, I have started writing and have a significant section of Elite: Lave Republic already drafted.

Ultimately, this will depend on three factors. 1. Frontier wanting more fiction, 2. The readership wanting more fiction, and 3. The writer(s) wanting to write more fiction.

At this stage, if you want more novels, tell Frontier and tell your friends to read what's already there. If the books become popular and are seen to enhance the franchise then maybe that'll help? ;)

I'm still in the process of polishing Out of the Darkness for approval by Frontier. It's well on the way, it's just the details that need implementing and whatever changes Frontier require.

As to a sequel, see the other writers' answers above.

Cheers,

TJ.

I definitely would like to see (read) a sequel to the stories, maybe for the launch of the planetary landing add on so that people will get exited about following the book by landing on various worlds to see if it is the same as the story. Just hope that the authors don't have to stump up a deposit* first as they did this time around.

*Deposit isn't the right word but you know what I mean.

Well, I do describe an entry into an atmosphere in my story and it was approved by Frontier, so...

Actually, I wrote some details about how dogfighting works long before Frontier had revealed the details, let alone released their Alpha and beta videos...

As Allen says basically. Frontier needs to decide first on how follow up books will be licensed. If they require another £4,500 the writers will have to look long and hard at the financial calculations.

Cheers,

Drew.

Will the proceeds from your book be able to cover another writer's pack? Hope so.

On Chapter 5 at the mo and thoroughly enjoying it.

That will depend entirely on how many get sold to folks who didn't back the original Kickstarters. ;)

The reaction to my book has, so far, been very positive, with many folk asking for a sequel. I have allowed for the possibility, so we'll see if the stars align later in the year.

Cheers,

Drew.

For some reason, I imagine Frontier will keep possible future novels "closer to home" than these first ones. Contracting individual authors etc. rather than selling licenses.

I tend to agree, I think the kickstarter packs were a one off deal to help fund the game. The other side is that the publicity the books generate is good for ED and for Frontier so I guess Frontier would have to weigh that up as well.

In that case, lobby Frontier for your favourite potential sequel. :) Other than the subconscious ideas popping into my head unbidden I won't be doing any active work until we're clear what the deal would be.

Cheers,

Drew.

.

Thats pretty much where I'm at too. I have other projects requiring my time so I won't be putting pen to paper on a sequel...until the ideas take off and I just have to get them down. The novel I was tidying up before And Here The Wheel came along was an idea I had played with for many years until I just HAD to write it. We'll see what my brain does while I'm not watching.

I'm not sure how straight forward the maths would be, but the difference between the writer's pack and the next reward down was £1500... So would that be the cost of the next round of licenses?

It get's complex because of the cheaper naming rewards listed, although it benefits the readers/gamers, writers, and Frontier to have the fiction and the game tie-in.

I guess we watch this space...

Frontier have indicated that they're not thinking about additional licensing at the moment. That doesn't preclude sequels (I'm working on some basic early ideas and Allen already has some significant work done) but means they won't be imminent any time soon.

Cheers,

Drew.

I think it's fair to say, their focus is getting the game together at the moment. When its a success, I hope they might consider additional licences.

Future Fiction Licences

This is a question to Michael, as he is in charge of the official fiction.
Hi Ben, yes plan is to write a trilogy, I have started Lave Republic, but the ball is firmly in Frontier's court as to whether I'll have permission.
...It's been very life-affirming reading the reviews from folks who've enjoyed my tale in the Elite: Dangerous universe. They're very much appreciated by me and will ultimately drive the possibility of a sequel. If you want me to write on, Commanders....
As for anthology 2.... You'll have to ask David/Michael nicely what their plans are for future fiction as our licences only extended to rights for a single book :)
So, given that the Kickstarter reward / licence only covered one book, I'd like to ask what are the plans for future official fiction? Will anyone be able to get permission or write an official novel?

If there was another kickstarter for any of the books I've read so far to raise writers pack fees (if necessary), I have no doubt the money would be easily acquired :)
