General / Off-Topic EU-Turkey Negotiations: President Erdogan threatens to "open the borders" to migrants

After a vote of the European Parliament asking for the freezing of the negotiations of membership of Turkey to the EU ... "Listen to me, please. If you go farther, these borders will open, put that yourselves in your head", declared Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a speech in Istanbul. A shame this Erdogan

Not happy with the UK closing our borders...not happy with turkey opening their borders...ironic conside3ring the EU pushes fer open borders, this could just be turkey getting into the spirit of things as it were. Many say if we want to keep our borders closed, we are xenophobic...yet here we have calls to keep borders closed to keep people from flooding southern europe...gotta love irony hmm?

EU is not for "open borders" Verminstar. We have a rather well kept outer border, and freedom of movement within the Shengen zone. So no, not ironic. A misunderstanding or a strawman. Turkey is not an EU member, and will not be one for at least a generation, if ever.

Let them Break the Deal. That Deal was a Joke anyways. The sooner we get rid of it. The Better.

Wow, using refugees as a weapon. Nice.

Notice how this was in response to the EU official freezing the Turkey accession process.

That's why EU leaders (like David Cameron) made nice soothing noises about helping Turkey, whilst actually doing nothing. We were in a holding pattern.

Verminstar; As Adept says, the external borders of the Schengen zone are secure but within there are no border checks.

Do you have locks on every door in your house? Do you need a key to get from the living room to the bog, a passcode to go upstairs? Or, like most people (apart from the tinfoil hat brigade :)) do you just have locks on your front and back doors and windows and allow members of your household to move between rooms freely?

Confusion over the Schengen zone, "freedom of movement", EU migration, nonEU migration, refugees, illegal immigrants etc is common amongst leave supporters but they are very different things.

Thursday evening, Turkish Prime Minister Binalu Yildirim had already estimated that the Europe would be "drowned" by the migrants if this agreement (on the migrants) was broken. "To threaten the agreement moves forward in nothing" retorted the German chancellery.

The borders of the European Union are much larger and permeable than a house ... Concerning the analogy of the Schengen area with the different rooms in the house, at certain periods of the history and according to the events, it is necessary to control severely who passes from one room to another. Especially when one of the members of the family calls all the neighborhood to come in large number in the house, without to ask the opinion of the other members of the family ...

As long as a the Turkish government and a significant part of their people support legalizing sexual abuse and child abuse I see no reason to even pretend there can be a start to a consideration of having any kind of relation with them. Recall our military assisting Turkey and spend that money securing the border with Greece. As a leftish socialist pro-EU guy: screw Turkey. Screw Erdogan. And screw his barbaric medieval primitive garbage.

Well...not every door but...well this is belfast, old habits and all that. Dual steel reinforced drop bars on both doors front and back with razor wire on the inside of the back wall which is topped with broken glass set in concrete. A pair of adhd jack russels take care of the alarms and both are trained hunting dogs...

If it makes any difference by asking the worst possible person to ask that from, its not there fer the benefit of immigrants or refugees...more fer my fellow countrymens benefit

I predicted this months ago, just after the EU paid them billions to keep the people crossing from Turkey to Greece. I said as soon as anyone pushes the point of Turkeys possible membership of the EU and anyone says, 'not going to happen', they would not just refuse to keep the boarder secure, they would encourage the movement, as a form of invasion threat.
