Proposal Discussion Elite Dangerous Online Store Ideas.

One word, mate - POSTERS!

I'm sure you have seen the faux travel posters that have been designed for numerous fantasy and off-world locations in the style of old-time British rail posters?

These would be a license to print money. "Deep-sea ice fishing on Europa" "See Fabulous Earth - Where It All Began!" "Lovely Lave - Jewel of the Sector" etc. Commission a set of 12 artworks and the product lines are endless:

High quality 36 x 24 in posters - £25-30
18 x 12 prints in poster sets - £50 for 6
Tea-towels - £5-10
Scarves - £10-15
Glasses - £10 each or all 12 for £100
Coasters - £15 for a set of 6

Basically, anything you find in a seaside resort souvenir shop could be marketed to promote the game.

If I had the graphics talent I'd license the rights from FD and do this myself.

I love the old British railway posters and have a few reproductions hanging up in the house. I would love to see similar ED themed ones.

I'd suggest using some of the in game brands for merchandising. maybe a Faulcon de Lacey key fob or a Core Dynamics t-shirt. Perhaps even jokey t-shirts like "My mate went to Port Zelada and all he got me was this lousy t-shirt"

Second that. I like apparel or pins etc that are subtle or an in-joke. Something I can wear to work and no-one will pay any attention to, except the occasional gamer who's in the know.

NOTHING in-game, that's for sure. Real cash for real stuff.

That ship model thingy though, that would be amazing.

Keeping the prices moderate will encourage some thought behind why you want to do it and what name you want to suggest. A quid a pop will have FD swamped with silly off the cuff requests imo.

This was suggested months back:

Name an asteroid belt for £10
Name a comet for £20
Name a colony for £30
Name a moon for £50

Maybe a bit too high though. If FD want it I'm sure they will figure out a balanced price tier that appeals to all.

Totally agree.

The prices should also include a framed certificate.

As Liqua said, the process for name registration could be done with the ticket system.

Yeah...

Boxers...
an eyepatch..
grass hula skirt..
a great kilt w/ Elite pin..
wallet.. one with a special pocket so money can be instantly transported to FD..

etc. :)

LOL, seriously though... a cap/hat would be awesome about now. Been thinking about hanging around the fabric store and start hitting up the ladies to see which one would want to program their embroidery machine with a special logo... ;)

A beautiful user manual of collection, available in several languages (in french, of course, for me)

Hmm, I wonder if a large format illustrated "making of" book containing the preliminary artwork & design, interviews by and about the designers, etc would sell widely?

Oh yes! Get Haynes to do a theme "owners manual" for the Cobra III like they have done for The Enterprise, Millenium Falcon & Dan Dare :D

Gift Shop ideas

Polo shirt with the Elite Dangerous logo on one side.

Black Polo shirts. Good Quality ones

Custom USB keyboard/dash with all the ED controls configured.

Keyboard, mouse and even joystick would be great

What about an 'official' certificate to those players reaching 'Elite' status with Cmdrs name kills etc time. Printed with David B signature. Players would pay for a black/gold framed or unframed certificate.

I want to see high end collectibles, similar to Sideshow, Gaming Heads and other companies that make polystone statues - $400-600 range for proper ship models.

Let me put a Cobra on my shelf !
