On pc I see this is a thing but would frontier make it a feature it would help my pirating as im a slow typer

Smartglass is the best you can do, I think. It does need something, but hard to think where it could fit with the current control scheme
Not everyone has smartglass or other tools to do it I dont see why its not a feature already
there are various macro tools out there for xbox that allow such things.

Connect a small, cheap USB keyboard to your Xbox. That's what my son does. He prefers it over all the other options.

It's wired, but I'm not sure if wireless ones work or not (I seem to remember they don't)
Wireless ones work as well. Picked one up for £10 I think. Laptop on one side with Inara and EDDB open, wireless keyboard on the other side. My very own cockpit lol

My son is OK with wired as he sits pretty close to his xbox in his bedroom.
I sit across the living room on the sofa where even the controller charge cable is a stretch to my xbox, so wireless would work best for me.
It is limited to 100 or so characters.
Some do some don't. Not sure why. I use a cheep wireless one from Maplin the blue tooth dongle plugs directly into the USB port on the Xbox.
I can't cut / paste / copy messages though.
Yeah it's pretty cack, but it's an option.
I have a chatpad. A bit more expensive but it works great. The hotkeys to take video and screenshots are nice, too.

The make is Logitech, pretty sure I bought it in a big Tesco Extra, seen a dedicated X-box one keyboard that you have to pay a lot more for but not sure what extra functionality you get or if it is worth it.

I used a long time the Smartglass app on computer because you can copy/paste from a textfile but my problem with that was that the smartglass app needs a reconnect or restart sometimes and its not very responsive so its not perfect.
A cmdr explained to me that a USB keyboard works too and its so much better because you can write messages without to open the textwindow from xbox and still have control over your ship and its still very fast to write. Another good thing is you can switch your chatpartner with TAB, the same if you are in a wing, you can easy switch to local chat.
