lets just get the exploration CG to tier 5 by the end of the community goal at least, see if that has any break throughts
Honsetly as an "outsider" this RPG <-> official FD Story <-> Wagner Book mix is highly confusing. I can barly grasp what is going on whenever I read something on GalNet or the Forum.
There is a clear Story line missing for those that want to Play ED and like to have a Story they can follow. It's all broken into Fragments here and there and that the community does RP is fine and sure to like but unfortunatly it adds even more to the overall confusion for those lost souls like me.
Anyway I am just deep outside crossed that Formaldehyd rift visiting Systems Close to the RR line (you should provide the exact coords in the OP I recalculated the line and figured out something doesnt match..your rounded coords) with no clue what I am looking for. But I read that's what you do to help to solve this Formidine Rift mysterie. I am secretly hopeing to find some Action ..some cute targoids ships on my six or anything.. but I guess there is nothing that wants to be found out there.
The view out thetre is of course nice but a bit monotone.

I would agree. If Drew is already writing his new book, then it would be a bit of a snag if player action totally changed her story so that his book made no sense at all and did not in any way match what is going on it game.
For this reason alone, Kahina's story is almost certainly already mapped out.

Regarding influencing Kahina's story: it is necessary to have a detailed plot laid out when working on a book of the size and scope of Premonition (Drew does not write 'by the seat of his pants' style as he goes, as is evident from his numerous blog posts on his site). That does not mean it is beyond influencing. It is a question of how and when and where the plotline can be influenced.

For example: the Formidine Rift mystery is potentially solvable by anyone at any time; this would be an event that would affect the development of the plot. If a Power collapses (if this comes in soon enough), then that might also have an effect, especially if it is Patreus. Other events we are not yet aware of might be waiting in the wings, ready to be triggered by a lone commander happening upon more ruins or crash sites, or someone figuring out the mystery of the major ruin site we already know about. The current pair of competing exploration CGs are an obvious branch point and we are waiting for Ram Tah and Professor Palin to provide some information to support their recent teasers of making breakthroughs.

I think the biggest issue is that the CoR were not able to have the exact effect they wanted when they attacked the INV Imperial Freedom. The thing to bear in mind is that there was never a mechanism to guarantee that mission's success. It was a case of attacking and driving it off, scooping any pods released and hoping. That does not mean it has had no effect on the story... we just don't know what effect it has had, yet.

Jump and scan stuff. I'm beginning to wonder if the beacons themselves are all that there is to find from this CG, like maybe they are the only things to actually find out at the search areas? Because it's surprising that no one has found anything else of interest in any of the three target areas yet.

staged progress, looks for more beacons, ive been saying it all along, the CG will yeild a news article and more inserted content, and then it will move forward, the community tends to jump the gate sometimes

The CGs have little or nothing to do with helping us solve the Rift mystery - they're about tying together the separarte threads of the big, overarching storyline that FDev has created. Expect the content for that to be measured out in bitesized chunks, as has happened with the Unkown Artifact/Probe story - which no doubt will be tied in too, given time.

Off-topic, but since you lot are the people who would know: Has anyone seen any reference to Octavia, which may indicate that she / her base exist in the game?

I tried supercruising 3LY out from Ferenchia towards Mithra, based on the description of Dalk throwing off his pursuer whilst looking for Hassan. Didn't find anything, obviously

I think FD have a bit of a dilemma - if they give us an actual lead the horde descends on the mystery and it may get found and blown up in a few hours, and if they give us nothing then, well, nothing happens. The former probably results in huge investments of their time in creating things being burned through very quickly, while the latter leads to player frustration and boredom. I don't know how you get around this.
All I can think of is to break mysteries into many small parts, so that many people can participate (find or solve something), but nobody can crack the whole thing open by themselves. At least, not until many people have shared what they know.
I literally sat up waiting for the galnet article, went to sleep frustrated it hadn't turned up (different time zone), and then EAFOTS/gap/confluence probes had largely been found before I got out of bed
