Missions: Finding Activists

Been searching for these "Activists" of more than half an hour now. It is a big huge 100k++ Ls system. Is this still old school USS RNG stuff, where i am supposed to just scan and eventually drop in in hope of finding 12 of these Activists? Or do they hide somewhere on planets? Already scanned the Nav beacon which told me to perform a "physical search", yeah thx for that in this big fracking system.

So, is there a "trick"?

Just realized it says to search USS, RES, and NAV. Well, then here we go.
Guess i had bad luck so far.

From what I understand, all missions of this kind-in space-rely on the blue "Mission Objective" system. Were you given an ETA for the mission-like you get with Hostage & Piracy missions?

Sounds like the kill pirate missions...

I think USS, despite what the mission text says, don't often have them, nav beacons and RES (if there are any) may prove a better hunting ground.

I have also heard anecdotal evidence that targets will appear in SC and you can interdict them, and also that on occasions, they simply never spawn.

Good luck.

I don't think that's it Marc... Those are the assassination missions for pirate lords, deserters and at one point there were some for terrorist leaders. That mechanic also applies to salvage missions.

That said, no harm in the OP scanning the nav beacon to see if it throws up a destination, but I'm pretty sure this type of mission is supposed to randomly spawn the targets around the system for you.

Ah OK. In that case, the ships you want to destroy will have the red Mission Target underneath them. Hope that helps. Also, check contacts as well....esp. if you have an FSD interdictor.

Well another 10 USS no luck (man, there are lots of Navy patrols these days), had some fund in CZ. There are no RES (they do show up in the Nav panel, right, no need to fly 20k Ls to the dead ring pair?). So time to head back to start, the Nav beacon. Kind of disappointing, didn't really need to explore the system if those guys hide at the NavB.

^This^

They should randomly (and very slowly) spawn at the nav beacon but the quickest way is to find them in supercruise and interdict them. Last time I did one of these missions all the targets were flying Asps and Diamondbacks, so look out for those.

Ok, i give up. I searched NAV and SC(interdicted), and some planet surfaces. Killed all kind of stuff at NAV and the surface of the given Faction Terminus Advanced Co. None had any marker. The counter in the mission is still is at 0/12. Mission failed. While the mission is rubbish, i did have lot's of fun. Still, no clue what these ominous "Activists" are supposed to be.

Yeah, I've just had the same happen to me
searched all of the above

if this does ever work I would expect protest POIs to show on nav panel

Merry Christmas all :)

I haven't tried an activist mission but I recently had a similar problem finding pirate mission targets - took much longer than usual.

1. What's the security status of the Terminus system?
2. It seems to me that in high security system spawn zones, the spawn rates of wanted / mission targets are lower, and police / military spawns are higher.
3. In addition, if the target faction is not a typical criminal organisation, this reduces the chance of spawn even further.
4. How much time were you given to complete the mission? A longer time eg more than 1 day may indicate the increased search time required.

In my case, it took me an hour and a half just to find three mission targets :(

Is this 100% expected, or is there some buggy behaviour with the BGS? Or is there a specific problem with the Activist missions? All possibilities I'm afraid...

Did you honk the systme with an ADS or scan the nav beacon?

Fly armound in Super crusie and watch the comms for people saying negative things about the controlling faction

The ones saying they are fleeing are refugess, the ones with badly metered chants are activists

ok just got the activist mission - saying covert civil unrest combat operation (taken at Lave)
you need to eliminate 40 Activists of the New Tionisla Defence Party.
Ok arrived at system - nothing, either at res sites, USS or anything. relogged several times - nothing. scanning ships in the system also revealed nothing, where were no in-system comms except wedding barge... at nav point i've scanned the beacon and message appeared: hidden contact: we cannot find any traces - you will need to track them down with a physical search. ok so i've searched all the planet installations for a controlling New Tionisla Defence Party. found one installation. flew there landed - empty. deployed SRV and scanned data point in there - nothing. ok was ready to fly away when spotted a distant something - appeared to be a landed vultures on the ground scattered around the installation. flew over - scanned - nothing and it's clean. no marks as a mission target. landed in SRV and stanned - nothing and seems unmanned. back to air - destroyed a ship - bounty on me as a murder committed. then in time adder and eagle came - destoyed them also (they were from the same party) also a murder and no count on mission ships... that was my experience here - abandoned a mission for a while.

Well, this is a bummer. I just picked up a few of these, because the payouts were huge, plus I've never done them before.
Checked nav beacon, a couple USS, and a res site, and not one "mission target". Granted I was only looking for 30-45 min, but based on what I'm reading here, my odds don't sound too good. :(

I guess I shouldn't have picked up a bunch of these before trying one out. My faction rep is going to take a hit with all these failures.

Anyway, I'll keep trying for a while and see if I get lucky.
