Well, as always, it depends what you want to do! To max out the jump range I would have to assume it is so you can go off exploring. First of all you need the A rated FSD. But to provide enough power to run this and anything else you want aboard you will need to check your power usage and which rating of power distributor you need. To max out your range, it is BASICALLY all about WEIGHT. The more WEIGHT you can shed the further you will be able to jump. If you are off exploring then leave all (or most!) of your hardpoints empty. Again, if you can get away without a shield, this will save WEIGHT and thus increase your RANGE.

Changing any module you still need, for the D rated one will mean you have the lightest one. I know it should be possible to get it somewhere above 35ly's jump range, but that depends on what you have fitted.

Then of course, it is also possible to extend your jump range by visiting the relevant Engineer who can modify Frame Shift Drives to extend your range. There are tasks and commodities required to be able to achieve this though.

Anyway, the basic thing to remember is WEIGHT. Adjust this down enough and your range will be extended. However, this means you will have a light but defenceless ship. It is always a compromise.

But if you plan on visiting any planet about which you are curious, and want to land on it, you need to factor in a SRV. And a D-rated shield to protect you from harm when you do land. With an unmodified AspX, I have about 32 ly jump range. The fuel scoop needs to be big: I am using a 6E that I picked up at Jaques.

With a Grade 5 FSD Upgrade from Farseer along with Light Weight Mods to the other heavier modules, you can still attain an unlaiden jump range of 43-46 Ly with the Asp X and still run a full weapons load out and a top class shield.

What do we have to bring for Farseer's Grade 5 FSD ?

What does Farseer require to make the upgrade? Or should I look it up somewhere? (I've not done anything with Engineers except in Beta, so far)

INARA has probably the best and most comprehensive Engineer section I have found for the game to date.

Check out this link and just go to the Farseer section, find the upgrade you want to do and make note of the required materials. :)

You will of course want to be upgrading a 5A FSD drive for the Asp X, which is the max module allowed on that ship. Do youself a favor if you can afford it, and buy one or two extra 5As, store them at the source and then ship them to Farseer base via her Outfitting section. Then you can keep your better upgrades, swap in a fresh module and keep rolling without worrying about losing a previous high roll.

If you own other ships that also use the 5A, you can use any extra high quality upgrades for use in those ships. I did this with the 6A for my Anaconda, Python and Corvette. Saved me a lot of jumping by just using the Anaconda to get there and back with the 6As. :) You can do the same with the upgraded Asp X with the 5A. :)

Great advice, thanks GG7 [up] and +1 to you
