So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

I have spoken to MB. Investigations ongoing.

Cheers,

Drew.

Yay! This has got to one of the most frustrating parts of game development. It's hard to beta test things that are meant to be a surprise.

I've parked my Asp on a nearby planet where I found a really nice plateau at the conjunction of a couple of canyons.

Drew only just noticed the bug this morning, and communicated with Frontier an hour or so ago, so you might want to give it a little more time than half an hour to get fixed. At least things are confirmed in motion now, which is much more promising news than we’ve had for the past two weeks!

We’ll finally be seeing what’s down there soon…

Seriously! All of that time & hard work you have all put into this game/ thread/search/etc... and now this happens and you're all like "Oh wow - thanks etc". Step back and think clearly about what the implications of this actually means = I reckon there has to be a couple of words to describe this outrage...

It just goes to show how much weight FD put on your efforts here and elsewhere.

Badly done

Just toying around out in EAFOTS. I'm sure while I would be mildly amused if a glitch prevented people from finding the secret of the rift for nearly 2 years, most of the player base would not.

I am confused. Wasn't it said the horizon is not needed for that rift mysterie?
So this Crash base can't be the mysterie or can it?

Wow, dude. You seem like you need to take a step back and not be so angry over a video game. Crap happens, instead of crying over it you deal with it and wait for a fix.

This almost certainly is new content that has been added recently to create more depth to the mystery of to supply new hints. Almost certainly not the answer to the mystery itself.

Truthfully, this ain't on you Drew.

As I said when I asked about this yesterday, it's barnacles all over again. I can afford to be sanguine because I actually smelled this coming from so far away I didn't even head out to the rift, it was bad enough flying around Merope like a pillock last year before FD realised that there were bugs preventing players from seeing content. I know they must be busy but really, people fly 10K LY out to a region and are dropping bug reports saying hey this planet is crashing us all the time, there's an active CG in the region too, yet it takes Drew getting involved to get it looked at? For something with a CG based around it, surely a bit of active monitoring isn't too much to ask?

Horizons is not required, but that doesn't mean it won't help. ;)

Cheers,

Drew.

Drew, Drew...Drew. You both intrigue me while tasking me at the same time! I'm eternally grateful for your contributions to the franchise, and I thank you for all you've done both today and in the past, yet sometimes I just want to shake you hard in the hopes that some pieces of secrets might fall out for all to behold and relish in! :D

Seriously though, thanks man.

In all fairness the UAs weren't pointing to Merope because of the barnacles, there just happened to be barnacles on that planet in Merope

But yes - they should have jumped on this like Brits to a poundshop

I lost count of the number of crash reports I sent off, including detailed information about the precise area of the planet causing problems.

I doubt anyone but the hardcore 'Rifters will now get to see this content, since like myself I imagine most other people who went out to the Rift for the CG, have now returned to the Bubble in order to cash in their scans in time for the deadline.

My only guess is that the person at FD who looks at (read: ignores) Combat Logging reports, is also the person who's supposed to look at the crash dump reports too..?

It seems really strange that FD didn't even spot that these new assets cause crashes before they released them. I guess they just didn't even bother the most basic check of sending someone from QA in game to the location?!

Yeah I was using 'Merope' as a kind of loose cypher for 'many random planets in the general Pleiades vicinity'. Partly because I couldn't remember the specific planets/systems but mainly because I was posting from work and so didn't have time to check back and name the specific ones :D

The point is obviously that if content is going to be curated to the degree that some of the stuff in this game is, that's fine with me as a delivery model - I don't have the same issues that some players have with the whole concept of curated content vs automatically generated; however it does require some time investment in actually monitoring stuff to make sure it's working as intended.

I just can't get my head round the QA and support processes that are at work in a company who will happily have a member of staff (or moderator, I genuinely don't know which) fly a ship around in open whilst role playing an npc in order to deliver story content, yet can leave what is presumably some form of POI in a system which players were led towards by in-game clues as part of a very well-publicised CG bugged so badly that nobody has been able to approach the area for a week without a CTD and seemingly not even notice until Drew gets 5 minutes to look at the forum and alerts them. This despite bug reports about it in the bug report thread. I mean did nobody at FD think at any point 'wow, bit surprised that after solving the beacon clues so fast nobody seems to have found the MYSTERIOUS THINGS yet' and think to have a quick check whether everything was working as planned, using a regular player account on the live build of the game?

In some ways I'd find it easier if FD were just universally crap at everything because at least there would be some pattern to it. You'd be able to form an expectation. :D
