Going to Beagle Point is a FAS

After being inspired by optimal 909 aka CMDR Crown Vic's journey to Beagle Point in an FDL recently, I have have decided to visit the ultimate explorer landmark in a ship that also (to my knowledge) hasn't been there, a Federal Assault Ship.

This is the most stripped out FAS you will ever see - 1D Power Distributor, 2A PP, 4D shields - a range of 33.82ly with an FSD I borrowed from my AspE. Plus no SRV, I rarely drive them anyway, so I ditched it to save weight.

I'll be leaving in late Jan (to coincide with a Deep Recon X trip destined for most likely the Hawking's Gap), and I'll either go up the Sagittarius-Carina arm and back to Colonia, or go as the crow flies and then back to Colonia. Either way, I'll need to cross The Abyss, so can someone tell me if I can make it with the current range? Thanks in advance [up]

Crossing the Abyss with 34ly should be a dawdle. Following the route through Roncevaux that Allitnil blazed I found it pretty easy in a 25ly Cobra (no jumponium), so you can probably go a far bit west of that and still have no problem.

Alrighty, thank you, but if this goes wrong it's on you [yesnod]. Nah I'm joking, I've got a bit of jump juice, and a mining laser...just in case...

I wish you the best of luck Commander. I am on my way back from DWE(still)but I went in a 31LY ASP, so 33 should be easy peasy :p

Good luck, Commander, I am drifting back from Beagle Point now and plan to make my way slowly down the Sagittarius-Carina arm so if you do follow that route outwards and you can swing by to visit, it would be a pleasure to rendezvous with you!

Thank you, it is oddly a satisfying experience to fly an ill-suited ship to BP. :)
According to my records, the longest jump you'll have to take is 33.4lys, so you should be fine. I will certainly follow your progress!

If you won't take an SRV, at least I'd bring a mining laser to keep the ability to collect mats - just in case, although it weighs about 2 tons or so. I'm not sure where I'll be at that time, now I'm slowly drifting towards Roncevaux and back to the core. Once there I will probably hand around a bit, and then decide to head back either to Colonia or the bubble- wherever the exploration data is most welcome.

Unfortunately I'm an Xbox commander :c (Hurry up with cross-play FD ;))

Good luck CMDR. Remember you can squeeze out a little more range by modding other modules. Life support is the most obvious as it's got a lightweight option but you can get small mass reductions on power plant, thrusters and shields as secondary effects. I went for overcharged power plant, clean drive tuning & reinforced shields and whilst the weight loss from each mod was rather small, it's good to have more power, a faster ship and better shields with no real downsides (other than the grind to gather the mats!). Also, just in case it's not obvious, heavy duty armour has no mass disadvantage when applied to lightweight alloys so is pure gain.

I certainly hope so, with loads of PS4 CMDRs coming on board next year!
Exploration would be crazy with all platforms...imagine the next Distant Worlds

Thanks, I've just modded the thrusters and shields, but it eeked out only an extra 0.02ly.

Good luck and safe travels!
I'm not sure but didn't Absolver take a FAS to Beagle Point during Distant Worlds?

I'm not remembering it good enough. Could have been a Dropship too.
Nevertheless - I do admire people that can stand that amount of jonking.

So much good(and new for me) information in one little post!

Alright, a route is roughly set out, and I leave the bubble with DRX on the 14th of January, first destination being the Hawking Gap.

An area known as the Viatori Patuit has caught my eye, it's a section along the Sagittarius-Carina arm, with almost no POI's (except 2 Sagittarius-Carina misson waypoints) for about 20,000ly. I may spend some extra time there when the time comes.

Has it been done in a Ferdie or a Viper IV? Keen to explore from Colonia with these, but I fear the latter may struggle with a range of 21 and change.
