Hardware & Technical I just bought a new computer!!!!!!

Unless you're doing stuff like large video editing 8gb will be quite enough.
I've 16gb and have never come close to maxing it out.
Even with creative suite and 3d software running.

Agreed. I use 3d software like Modo 801.. and I've never had Modo use more than 8gb of my 16gb..
The only app I've experienced to use all my RAM is the terrain generation applications such as World Machine Pro and Terragen 3.

Gamer-only computers with 16gb ram could be considered overkill.. as it does nothing to improve your framerates or load times. The only scenario where a gamer computer could use 16gb, is if one ram chip fails, you can take out the faulty ram and still have enough. :)

Or, maybe in some future game engine where RAM is super important. Maybe the Cobra engine will require much more ram as the procedurally generated planets come. ;)

OP: Your computer is top notch, don't worry you didn't make any mistakes.

Don't count money the other person have.;) Sometimes people do not have extra £100 and in most of the cases they spend more time on a new PC than they have originally planned.
I Understand that...been there many times, but not with a machine that costs a small fortune.
...but that PC is very high spec and definitely not cheap. The GFX card alone is more than some people spend on an entire PC :D

I wasn't criticising the spec...I was just querying why the 2Tb, since someone who builds a machine of this calibre I would assume is not your general PC user ;)

NAS boxes are the future.

NAS boxes are the future.

I have to agree with this. I run with a 500gb SSD in my main gaming machine, a 3 TB drive in my home theatre PC and 2 x 2 TB drives in my NAS box for backup purposes. I've got a fair pile of large filesize games (BF4, a bunch of Steam engine, Skyrim etc) installed on the gaming desktop and still have ~100 gb free. Bulk storage just isn't really needed in desktop machines any more, especially if you have a fast connection and access to Steam/Desura etc.

Why are has boxes for the future? I am considering one to stream stuff to multiple machines but on a single games rig with non mission critical data? Nahhh it wouldn't be my choice the op did fine IMO

Bit of an update!

I ended up folding to some pretty heavy pressure from some of my friends and you guys, I went with the 4790 i7 and the Z97 MOBA.

Partially, this was because I found a promo code that would save me a couple hundred bucks and had to cancel my order to use it. But, I'm really happy with the new choice.

I was also able to go with the:

GTX 780 3GB GDDR5 PCIe 3.0 x16 Video Card (EVGA FTW Edition w/ EVGA ACX Cooler)

Cooler Master Seidon 240M Liquid Cooling CPU Cooler - Extreme Performance CPU Cooler (Dual Standard 120MM Fans (Push-Pull)

And a better SSD: 250GB Samsung 840 EVO Series SATA-III 6.0Gb/s SSD - 540MB/s Read & 520MB/s Write

Even with all of this, thanks to the promo code, I was able to save money, get rushed shipping, and get better stuff! So, thanks to everyone... whether you gave me an 'Attaboy' or suggested I switch up a little.

(I took nearly everyone's advice... ;) )

Did you get 4790 or 4790k? Z97 is not necessary for 4790 (without k).

Should I ask them if they can give me two K's?

Seriously though, folks. The only thing that sucks is I can't bring myself to play Elite until it gets here! I have a new monitor, a new trackir, a new X52 pro... all sitting in wait.

I can't plow through with this dinosaur rig knowing what I have coming!

Nice specs, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Beats my rig and I can run ED at 1440p at a smooth 60fps so you should have a great experience.

Anybody want to keep me company?

Lets talk about how awesome it is and how I'm going to see Elite at its best finally!

I'm freaking out I'm so excited.

It's the first time I ever got a real gaming rig.

Anyone wanna know the specs?
