Horizons An NPC Beluga killed my Anaconda - or another dumb way to die!

How? you might well ask.
I thought I had used up all the silly ways to lose a ship - but this one took me by surprise.
Returning after a series of short sight seeing missions, hull full of happy passengers. I was just approaching the letterbox of Jane's Horizons abot 300m out.
I heard a familiar engine sound behind me - oh my god an NPC Beluga was trying to overtake me into the letterbox of the station. Couldn't go faster and couldn't stop! Too late, we were both wedged unable to move. Authorities eventually killed us both and all our passengers. 10mil re-buy. :D

I hate Belugas...

Had a similar thing happen to me last week, leaving a station in my type-9 full of gold for the C.G. just about to enter the letter box when a beluga over took me pushing me into the letterbox at a angle, and just as I managed to get out the letterbox and was just about to leave the rings on the outside of the box a second beluga came into the area and wedged me into the rings and unable to move. Thanks to the second beluga, I got a fine, then both myself and the beluga where destroyed for loitering.

7mil rebuy plus 4.6mil in cargo gone

Word to the wise, if you get stuck in the letterbox, save and reload, you will be outside the station again. Much cheaper.

This a common occurrence with Belugas and other NPC's, I've had it happen on several occasions on exit but have avoided being trapped, never happened on entry, with a ship approach from stern, which would be hard to see (FD doesn't believe in rear view?!). NPC's will stop inside the slot if you approach them. The size of the Beluga is the issue. particularly if you're in a large ship, easy to jam up.

I've contemplated going rogue and declaring war on all Belugas due to their annoying comm chatter and their behavior at stations.

The beluga uses more than the half of the letterbox, wait until she cross or give way! :D I had something similar with my Annie few days ago, but I pushed the Beluga to the side and only received a fine.

What really gets on my wick about these situations is the attitude of F D's AI coders (yes you know who I am looking at) here. The AI can run rings around us in combat, the AI pigs scan us as we enter and leave, pirate AI can detect us in supercruise whilst they are not and can get an interdiction tether on us across whole solar systems yet they can't see us in a station or when entering a station. I am fed up with Belugas pushing me about when I am waiting to leave (last night pushing me over a landing pad - got out before the warning timed out). Even more insulting is the controller berating me for unsafe flying when it is some idiot AI flying up my backside while I am leaving the slot at 99m/s - give us a break!

Come on SJA, take a break from finding new fiendish methods for your minions to kill us, make some time to get them to avoid collisions with our ships in and around stations.

I can already feel the guilt of the massacre fading...

Well there is a lesson to learnt here...
It doesn't matter how well things are going or how invincible you think you are, you just never know when you will be hit by a bus!

I am using a docking computer, which essential is an NPC, and let them fight it out. I never had any problems. The DC is either waiting or pushing its way through. Way faster than I would dare.;)

Eh, try flying the Beluga. NPC's don't care about your wings. If you travel 101m/s and a sidey flies into you, your passengers will have collective apoplexy and hit the eject button.

When exiting the station, sit at your pad for ~10sec. After that your radar will appear so you can see behind you.

doesn't work if you are in a private group and in a wing. have been ale to save and reload before, but have found that if in a wing and in a private group then there is a good chance you will still die even if you save and reload or even quit and reload as game is still recording whats happening through your wingmate.
Lost a type 9 full of platinum when got interdicted when in a wing and my wingman couldn't help me cause we where out gunned, quit out the game, waited a couple of minutes and when I reloaded was informed I dead.
so don't normally run in wings when doing cargo, but forgot to leave the wing as had just changed ship.

Interesting, wonder what would happen if you immediately loaded up in solo in that example, would there be 2 of you briefly!

These Stupid NPC Beluga Pilots also think they are bigger then a ICutter

I have had a few Fines cos of these Idiots trying to get in / out of stations & not giving way to The Larger Ship! most of the time i have been able to maintain my course & force them into the grill or miss the slot
my max dock / undock speeds are 70-80ms nomore just incase a NPC Beluga is around

One time i was trying to leave a station (George Lucas) with my asp, stuffed with rare goods, and my ferret started crawling over my mouse. I use a hotas but the mouse button is still bound to the fire groups, so he deployed hardpoint and shot once or twice before i could remove him from my table. The station killed me within seconds. I don't remember the cost (rebuy+lost cargo) but at least i had a good laugh :)
