Engineers Modding non A-grade parts.

So I've heard about a few engineer mods that may not be obvious,

Anyone got some interesting mods of sub standard equipment?

What, if any, are reasons to not choose a rated components when engineering your ships.

I know it depends on what your using it for, so tell us!

Rating an E rated shield booster for resistance. The E rated booster does little for the shield, but uses very little energy. It's the resistance you really want from it. Handy when you're trying to get the most out of your ship but have power issues.

D-rated Lifesupport with leightweight mod for explorers :)
If you are 30k ly outside the bubble, it doesn't matter if you have 25 minutes or 7 min 30 sec to breath before you die after your canopy was blowen out^^

Also D-rated thrusters with clean drive tuning from grade 1 onwards. Better heat management never hurts on explorers. I have 5D grade 1 clean drives on my Anaconda for this.
The same is right for the shield generator. 3D reinforced or kinetic resistance for them, best at grade 5.

For some it is also possible to use engine focused mod on powerdistributor, to stay able for boost but go one or two classes lower here. For the ASP explorer you can downgrade from 3D to 2D this way.

Maybe some people use B-rated modules to modify for best results in integrity :)

I think you can also do the same for weight, but with the Heavy Duty mod. Gives something like a 28% boost for ~2t, instead of the 35% boost for ~9t from the Class A.

Modded D8 thrusters with dirty drive tuning 3 for a trade cutter, because i did not want to buy 8A because of price and was too lazy to fly it to maia. Still gave me nice speed boost almost for free.

Oh right, have forgotten D-traders :D
Yes my D-cutter has also slightly upgrades. All what was left and i din't needed elsewhere. 7D thrusters clean drive, D-life support lightweight....etc

I have a C PSU that I modded for my Python. It outputs like an A class, but for fifty million fewer credits.
The credits are not so much of a problem, now, but I've kept the modded C anyway.

E-class booster can get up to 40% boost. A-class can get up to 61%.
With good secondaries, of course.
