Help please. no player respect.

I've been playing ED for about a week now. i can't seem to earn any credits. every time i got to an area to grind out some credits by killing some other ships (npc). another player in the game with better stuff then me shoots me down.. even if i haven't choose a side.. Now i know this is early beta but this is happening in the starting zone. even if i'm on their side they still shoot me.. That is making it no fun to play this game if this is how it's going to be when it releases. What happens to players that don't respect other players in the game? I feel like i'm playing eve but i'm in the ship. Can someone help me or give me some advice on how to earn credits in a starer ship?

Dose the game have any chat functions so that you can chat with other players? or will this come at a later time?

The only advise I can give you is to choose the right side in the conflict, i.e. the one that was chosen by the majority of players. Otherwise other PCs rush immediately to destroy you.

Or you can try collecting bounty at the extraction sites.

Further into the game or on release, there will be big penalties for people who shoot you. Unless you are in a warzone and choose the other side.

This isnt implemented yet as we are in early Beta.

It might be worth practicing dog-fighting in the SP scenarios first, so you're more comfortable with the flight model.

As for the MP, What I do is go to Eranin system, got to the Federal Distress Signal. When you arrive, have a look around for other players (Green "hollow" icons on your Radar) and see who they're attacking.
1) If they attacking sidewinders, then look to the right menu, right most tab, top option, choose to join Federation.
2) If they shooting the smaller federal fighters, then chose to join the Eranin defence force.
3) if there are no other players, I'd join the Eranin. The fighters are easier to kill than the sidewinders and both give 500 creds. Also, once you hit a fighter it flys right at you, which makes hitting them again much easier.

You should be able to make enough cash in about 10-20 mins to go grap gimballed lasers (which I think is about 15k credits for 2).

From there, it's pretty easy. ;)

How do i know what side the players are on? the last site i went to i looked at the players and it didn't show anything for there factions under the contacts.

another perspective:

I had a great time last night, i'm in a sidewinder with one peashooter and gunning out of stations at full blast trying to dodge the laser fire praying that i'd get out to hyper drive range then trying to sneak in the other end with a combination of silent running and blind faith was i have to say, great fun and i cant wait to have the equipment necessary to fight back and turn the tables :D

You are wrong, as long as you have not chosen the faction everyone is neutral to you, i.e. yellow. So it is pretty hard to guess, which side to choose. If they attack Federal Fighters than they are Eranin, if Sidewinders - Federation.

It only would if it was a war zone. So the Combat Zones an Federal Distress call in Eranin System.

If there are no factions, I suspect you may be in the resource site, which is essentially pirates and bounty hunters. Basically free for all.

How am I wrong, that's exactly what I said. :S

Personally I traded until I got a second laser then spent time in the extraction zone. Some players may attack you but it's not as common as other places. As long as you stay clean you should only be fighting one enemy at a time. Early on it was worth the risk grabbing some higher value containers and selling on black market but once you are better at killing it is more profitable to just concentrate on bounties. Once you can afford 2 gimballed lasers and you can put 4 pips to weapons you kill stuff pretty quickly.

PB2 is only days away so it may be that trading is bit more profitable and you might just start saving now against the new hauler ship in that update.

The best advice I can give in this situation is to simply chose a side at random.
Then see if any other players are red.
If they are then turn away from them quickly, stow your weapons, and hit the supercruise button.
You only need to SC for a second then drop back out.
You should still be in the combat zone but your choice of faction will have been redacted.
So, at this point, you can go back into the faction selection and choose the other one.
Now the players should be green and you can happily zap away.
But expect trouble if you see a red player. Sometimes they'll be just like you, sometimes they'll be just like me. Stay sharp and don't forget you can stow your weapons and drop into supercruise to escape.

I'm as guilty as anyone of acting with lethal force upon seeing another red player. It's not very nice I quite agree. But I don't know how good they are. I used to kill plenty of Eagles and Cobras in my Sidewinder with two pulse lasers, and if I can do that then so can others. So the default reaction is to take no chances and get rid of them.
It's a crappy situation I completely agree.
Bear in mind that this is only in the high or low intensity conflict zones, or Federal Distress.

If you go into one of the Extraction Sites such as the one in the planet's rings when you get to the Asellus system then you're on your own there. There are no factions. You should not be fired upon unless you have a bounty on your head. If you do have a bounty then you need to dock and pay it off before going back.
Once you're there with no bounty and flying around, keep your speed on the low end of the blue area so you don't go careering into asteroids, keep your weapons out and make sure you scan your target before thinking about opening fire.
You can run a scan when you target them. Say you see a ship mining an asteroid or something. Target them, in the bottom left of your cockpit you'll see the scan proceeding. It will come up with their name and their legal status. If they're clean leave them alone.
If they're wanted, you know what to do.

Don't be afraid of having a go at a wanted Cobra. They're usually not very good pilots, obviously there are exceptions, but you can take them out with the basic Sidewinder if you are practiced. Otherwise I'd say keep to other Sidewinders and the Federation ships.
Scan everyone regardless. You will see Federation "police" ships with a wanted status occasionally too. They have usually made a mistake and accidentally fired upon someone who is clean and thereby gained a bounty themselves. If they have, don't be afraid to take them on. Their shields are weak and their hull is made of paper. It's easy money with those and a bounty is a bounty.
You won't get a bounty on your head unless you fire upon an innocent i.e. someone with a clean status.

When you arrive in the Federal Defence scenario open up the right hand panel and tab along to the last tab.
In there are functions for your landing gear etc... You will also see at the top the faction selector.
Click it, make your selection and off you go to shoot the red ones.

But I have to admit. At this point in the beta it looks like, some experienced players are just cruising around and if they find a starter ship they shoot even if you are just flying or choose the same side in a zone.

It is beta, it is not the full game, I don't care if some npc blows my ship if I'm fighting, or are blown by a player I'm fighting, but it is sometimes frustrating if two cobra's shooting my start sidewinder without any reason apparently just for fun.
OP please remember at this time the ED universe is filled with these kind of
"heroes" , and if there will be no penalty in the future there always be.
Get over it, try to have fun playing and I can advise you (like others) to practice some time in the single player scenarios. Even if it is not so much fun as in the multiplayer universe

That happened in Alpha as well. Lots of PCs attack other PCs as soon as they see them on the radar and it does not depend on their experience.

... if they find a starter ship ...
There is no way to tell if the pilot is a starter or not.
As I said it's not that difficult to take out a fully armed and armoured Cobra in a Sidewinder if you know what you're doing.
There is just no way to tell the nature of the pilot. Not all Sidewinders are piloted by newbies.

Best thing you can do is go to the Anarchy system and lock onto the unidentified signal next to planet 4. If you go there you should find cargo canisters with personal weapons. Scoop up 4 and then set a course for Dahan and sell them there. That should net you 10,000 credits per run. Sometimes other players will shoot you down but if they do just keep selecting the free sidewinder and going back! Once you've made enough credits upgrade your ship to have 2 pulse lasers and then try the bounty hunting in the asteroid fields.
