Some movies, like Logan's Run, deserve a remake because the story was good but the execution was terrible.
Blade Runner was a masterpiece they'll never live up to. Either the movie will be a cheap attempt at story telling lost in the movie's attempts to be trendy and relate to our contemporary level of technology and commentary on current events, or it'll be it's own great piece of fiction that will constantly be compared to it's predecessor and won't get a fair shot as it's own movie. Half the reason I moved to Vancouver was to eat noodles in the rain next to neon lights. I can't be the only one who's passed out with this movie on repeat and heard "To bad she won't live..." in their sleep.
It's all about the atmosphere of melancholic slight-dystopia. More important than the story or the acting.
This. As a story, Blade Runner was meh. But the atmosphere and mood was second to none. It was an eye-opener.
I should note that not all reboots are bad. Case in point: GITS-SAC.
When that TV Series was announced, I was ready to hate it. I really was. The first movie was a masterpiece that had etched itself into my brain, not because of the (weak) plot, but because of both the atmosphere, the topic at hand, and the way it was executed. Hearing that they were planning a Series was bad news for me.
But the series managed to not only live up to, but surpass the original movie. It reset the story, it changed the tone, switched from a bleak dystopia to a bright (if troubled) future. It had its own rather intelligent plot. And it featured some of the best soundtrack ever made by Yoko Kanno. It won me over very quickly. But that was because they had a story to tell, and executed it solidly.

If GITS means Ghost in the Shell I agree with you. In no way does Scarlets Johansson even remotely resemble Motoko Kusanagi. But I'd be so bold to say the new Star Wars movies are great movies. Star Trek as well. We just need to grow with the movies.
The only issue initially I have with the new Blade Runner movie is Ryan Gosley seems a little misplaced. And Mr Ford is too old haha.

Did you eat Memberberries?
New Star Wars: Flat characters with little or non-sensical motivation, weird dialogue (Han + Leia, what a cringe), the bad guy stops going after his objective for no reason, the map plot itself made no sense, oh and you can see planets explode in another star system across the galaxy just by looking up into the sky. Oh and R2 wakes up on his own because
New Star Trek: Terrible music by Copy Artist Michael Giaccino, the engine room is just a beer brewery, Spock is an emotional psychopath instead of a vulkan, and instead of James T. Kirk we essentially get Zap Brannagan in the captain's chair. Oh and everything you know about Trek didn't happen because JJ. Remember Lost? Remember how
awesome the ending was? Yeah, that guy.
I agree that Star Wars was at least more fun than Trek, but overall I stand by my opinion: We don't have to "grow with those movies", just like we didn't have to hold the iPhone differently.
