Community Event / Creation Buckyball Racing Club presents: Grom in 60 Seconds (16th - 22nd December)

Intent to race!

Intent to retire! :D

Now I see that Polly did the Cannonball in a Clipper...cookiehole just lined up an Orca...and I'm here heading out in the Cow...hear the wrath of my thunderous moo! :p

Hoping to have something valid to upload by tomorrow evening.

I've arrived (in a Clipper, an Asp and an Imperial Courier). I've even done a run which I'll upload later. No idea if I'm doing this right, just kinda winged it and video'd the attempt. I'll re-read the rules again later too.

o/ everyone!

OK scratch that, definitely need to re-read the rules ... I managed 44.8KM in my Fast and Furious and 5,413LS in my Canonball Run! :p

Edit: ahhh, I see what happened ... I was doing "Grom, Grommer & Grommerest in 15 minutes" rather than "Grom in 60 seconds" (clue was in the title!). I'll be back.

no run for me as yet but i did have great fun tinkering in the outfitters last night. I think i have my ships ready for a crack tonight, just hope i can get my anaconda out of mass lock in time!

That might make for an interesting alternative race. Fifteen minutes to allocate to each category as you see fit. Maybe we can do that next year.

Also the rules have been updated to clarify no fighters. You can fit a fighter bay if you really want but you may not deploy the fighter, as fighters are only available to Horizons players.

Just emailed my entry in the Fast and Furious category (only). I have not yet been able to clear mass lock in time to jump in my Asp and I'm feeling a bit burned-out and tired, so I'm going to take a break from this for now. Good luck to everyone else racing and extra kudos to those people who are able to get their long-range Asps (and other ships) clear of the station in time! Fly fast!

The race got mentioned in Obsidian Ant's latest video:

[video=youtube_share;hPzKZaVMv8c]https://youtu.be/hPzKZaVMv8c?t=6m43s[/video]

Starts about 6:35

Apologies to the pilot of the poor yellow striped (was it yellow?) Cobra that I stomped on my way out of Sinclair this evening, whoever he/she may have been

The traffic of large sea mammals in and around the station makes everything more interesting (if this has been chosen on purpose, well played furrycat), less so when you are mass-locked in a T7!

15 minutes for a complete entry are a time limit a lot tighter than I initially expected. Planning, planning.

Meanwhile...

In the unofficial temporary headquarters of Team Stevenson, Chief Engineer Castro felt a shiver run up her spine...

The Search and Rescue coordinator at Sinclair Port Traffic Control was developing a migraine...

Alistair Lewis, owner and operator of "AAAAAAA Body Repair," was wondering why he felt like he'd suddenly won the lottery...

... and Commander Inga Stevenson had brilliant idea.

Until Tomorrow, Commanders!

Been banging my head with the hyperspace run. Closest I have got has been 8 seconds over.

Thanks to Alec, I reread the rules and have just measured my witchspace time which is 23 seconds!! No wonder i'm getting nowhere near :)

Hopefully can get a few runs to submit today now :)

Ahh crap! Really shoulda' read the rules properly. Might need to re-think my Imperial Courier then.

OK, read the rules properly, run submitted. Swapped the Courier for a Cobra Mk III.

Presenting the Mnemonic Null Fail

Beauty shots of the other two ships (Clipper = "Miner Threat", Asp X = "The Wedding Anniversary") coming soon.

Glad to hear you've found a way forward and sorry for getting in your way in the mailslot earlier! :p

Don't forget I'll accept entries where the hyperspace countdown finishes no later than 45 seconds after launch, even if witchspace time is more than 15 seconds.

If you're taking 68 seconds of which 23 seconds is post-countdown your entry is valid.

Alec's run has been received and will be processed later. Unfortunately the race-o-matic isn't set up for drag racing so I'm having to do the submissions by hand. And that means only limited stats - if any - at the end, which I know will disappoint some of you.

:) Never even saw you until we hit. Trying to avoid all the Belugas and Orcas is taking all my concentration.

Thanks. I'd forgotten about that until Alec mentioned it earlier.
Didn't realise that I was taking so long in witchspace.
Just thought that i'm awful at leaving station :) This is only half-true now :)

In the vid I posted, I only just make the jump at 45 seconds, and I don't land in the target system until 1m 6 sec, a 21 second transition. If I can find a system to match the current leader, I'm going to have to be landing there at 58 seconds!

I watched this a short while ago to see how close you were getting in the Asp.
I've eventually submitted a run (hope it is valid) were the engage is 43 seconds and the drop at star is 1m 8 sec (25 secs :(). No chance in a standard Buckyball system-system race.

No idea how you guys are getting over the 37ly in the Asp (you cutting holes in it or something?? :))
Be interested to see your loadouts when the race is completed.

Inga Stevenson's Brilliant Plan of Galactic Conquest (while not blowing myself up in the process):

1) See if it can be done: CHECK!
2) See if I can do it: CHECK!
3) See if I can do it consistently: NOPE!
...
5) Profit!
(Have you seen these repair bills? 3% Hull is not profitable! G.C.)

I have time for two more attempts tonight. Maybe the third time will be the charm. ;)

edit:

And it seems Messieurs Murphy and Finagle both decided that no one should be able to conquer the galaxy, and have ganged up on me. My last run failed to record, and I think I managed to arrive at "engage" within 45 seconds this time. [cry][ugh][sad]

edit the second:

Still taking two seconds too long. :( Hopefully, my new destination for "Gone in 60 Seconds" will be in FRONT of the station tomorrow night.
