Community Event / Creation Buckyball Racing Club presents: Grom in 60 Seconds (16th - 22nd December)

Turns out that stripping all the mining equipment out of Miner Threat has actually improved it's performance in the Canonball Run. Damn you furrycat, you made me get serious about this race.

Anyway, new run submitted and introducing the cast ..

I'm processing Alec's two entries now.

I haven't received any emailed entries. If you've emailed me an entry it may be that the buckyballracing.org.uk server isn't forwarding to me and I suggest you send a forum PM instead.

I did some experimentation last night and hauled and ordered some ships over to Sinclair.

Hoping to get a decent run tonight.

Currently planning Cobra mk3, FAS, Conda.

it's fiendish!

i spent last evening attempting to get my Annie out of mass lock and jumped in 45s. not quite but near enough to have a few more tries.

Thank you for the warning, I sent you a submission a couple days ago...sending again via PM as soon as I'm back at home.

I have just realised the testing I did with my Conda was slightly flawed and I never actually managed to get to end of countdown in less than 46 seconds...

That was with 5D thrusters though, should be a breeze with 6D ;) but will I still out jump an Asp... Could be bringing more ships over...

I just tested my buckyball e-mail address and it still works.

Just re-sent my entry via PM. Since it seems I'm not the only one affected, I wonder if it's just a problem with furrycat's email address (though I didn't have it bounce back, like I do when I mis-spell something), as I was able to email my entries to Kick the Alien just fine.

I found the problem with emails! Entries from AkenBosch, Edelgard von Rhein and mrdragonraaar were safely delivered. My filters were trying to deliver them to the wrong folder. If you aren't familiar with mail servers you can read that as "they were in my spam folder" which is close enough to what happened.

Sorry folks. Resume racing!

I watched this a short while ago to see how close you were getting in the Asp.
I've eventually submitted a run (hope it is valid) were the engage is 43 seconds and the drop at star is 1m 8 sec (25 secs :(). No chance in a standard Buckyball system-system race.

No idea how you guys are getting over the 37ly in the Asp (you cutting holes in it or something?? :))
Be interested to see your loadouts when the race is completed.
I show the loadout in the video with the shot of the right panel. Basically it's D everything as small as you can and no shields. Best possible range is 38.02LY on fumes but I can't find a system on that number.

I had another shot today and improved the Cannonball Run and Fast and Furious, but the improved distance in Gone in 60 Seconds was a failure. The drive engaged 1s too late.

no Jokers played yet? it's getting pretty close to the final 24hrs. is everyone keeping their cards close to their chest?

"The joker card may be played once per race category per competitor." does this means i get 3 Jokers which can be played on individual race entries or in a BuckyStyle triple or quits attempt?

The joker card may only be used when a competitor meets all of the following conditions:
  • He is pledged to a Powerplay faction hostile to Yuri Grom.
  • His ship is fitted with Lightweight Alloys.
  • His ship is not fitted with any Hull Reinforcement Packages.
  • His ship is not fitted with a Shield Generator.
  • He has not previously declared the use of a joker in the same category entry at any time.
  • He is not declaring the use of a joker in a different category of the same race entry.

Only for Powerplay pledgers. ;)

aaahhhhh, super ' pished off!

shadowplay refuses to record the game view. instead it decides a better option is some sort of half baked hybrid of desktop and a star field is the way forward.

hey ho, nothing like leaving it until the last minute to get a time on the board!

i suppose i should declare my jokers. one should be a J-orca

*digs out f10 button masher - again

good to see a few folks out tonight

Yes there was a fair bit of activity this evening (evening for me/us at least)...I also spotted racer1 trying his best in a FAS, with the station's rack trying its best to stop him. And largely succeeding at it. That looked painful from a distance :D.

I had a complete run that I'm quite satisfied of for once...could be improved of course, but mostly due to lucky pad assignment and launch timing (no ships in the rack, no mass-lock from large ships)...not the case with the Gone in 60 Seconds though, I think the AspX gave pretty much all there was to give there (of course I'll soon be denied on this by cookiehole, probably doing the launch in 3 to 5 seconds less than me [where is it])

Finally managed to complete the planning stage today and got a run in.
Small improvements definitely still possible and maybe I'll try some ship changes, but today's attempt was pretty lucky (no masslock, good pads, no crashes). :)

Hmm. My launch was ok, but hyperspace is preventing me from getting any sub-60s-times. About 90% of my jumps are around 20s or longer despite a pretty solid internet connection. It's probably the servers, I've been mostly playing in the evening over the last weeks.
So it's either hoping that nobody uses the same loadout and jump target or giving the Anaconda yet another try...

Still having trouble with my desired destination for "Gone in 60" sitting behind the station. It can be done, but I have to get the maneuver right in order to hit "engage" at 45 seconds. Too soon, and I can't jump at all. Too late, and I don't get up to jumping speed in time.
