Switch to PC worth it?

I'm currently an Xbox One user as far as Elite Dangerous goes. however, I'm thinking of switching to a PC version of the game sometime in the future. But before I do that, I need to know the pros and cons of such a move.

I also have a question for the Devs about this; If I make the switch, am I able to keep the profile/charactor/avaitar on my Xbox One (along with any and all saved progress/data/etc.) and transfer it over, or am I going to have to start all over (which would really stink BTW)?

Any Imput would be nice.

FYI I'll be making a copy of this thread in the main Dangerous discussion forum since it relates I believe.

As I understand it, nope.

I think you can transfer the total credit value of a commander, but that would be all. I think.

FD may be able to transfer your credit balance and maybe your ships - I don't know for sure though.

Elite on PC obviously has all the benefits of PC - multiple monitors, range of controllers, VR, better performance, faster drives, you can play it on a laptop etc.

The game itself isn't much different of course - and many PC players prefer to play with the Xbox controller.

I just moved from Xbox to PC, must admit I'm loving it all over again. Handling the ships with a HOTAS is a whole new ballgame, ridiculously high display resolutions in ultra detail with no texture draw in for the planets... no menu lag or hyperjump stuttering....being able to use a mouse for the menus and galaxy/system maps.

To be honest, FDev did a stunning job porting ED to the Xbox with the amount of control bindings all working seemlessly on an Xbox controller.

Downides...hmm. Losing my ranks, I was a few % off triple Elite. Miss my ships, ship kits and skins, my GPP sticker for the ships... the mass of RNGineering I've got to do all over again... ranking up all over again with the Feds and Empire for the faction ships... The Cobra 4 I really miss, strangely enough [where is it]... access to Shinrarta Dezhra. And... I miss the Social side with my usual crowd, as much as I'm usually in an Xbox live chat with them via the Xbox app.

The credit balance and assets ported over nicely though and made the fresh start a bit easier... straight into an A rated Python with a spare A rated Cobra and Anaconda in the shed, which was nice.

Now for those damned RNGineers [sad]

@OP Just an FYI if you haven't spotted this - there's 33% off the PC versions of Elite Dangerous/Horizons at the moment via the Frontier Store or Steam if you are thinking of buying it.

This.

They can only transfer your total asset value in credits. Your ranks, ships, etc will not follow you and you'll have to start those again. So depending how far along you are in your rankings will determine how much it's worth to you.

I was thinking of doing this as well but after talking to customer support and seeing that you lose everything but credits and value of assets I decided I'm not willing to do everything else over again.

Hey,
Transfer credit value? Total asset value?

To get the most bang for my buck, would i need to sell off my ships on the One?

I did... apart from losing the 10% on the ship hulls, I'm quite content. I should have just kept the ships, they count toward assets without losing the 10%

It's absolutely worth it if you're using a new-build PC. The performance gulf is huge.

I like the Xbox version, and play it daily, more than PC actually. But I won't sugarcoat things. Ny PC massively outclasses the Xbox client, even with a relatively humble GTX 960.

You said it right there, Horsey one. [up]

I must admit, I was surprised the first time I fired up ED on my PC after playing on the Xbox for over a year, I hadn't honestly expected the difference to be so... noticeable. I was lucky enough to be able to put together a fairly decent build... not just to play ED I might add, but would also run everything game wise I have (ARMA3, Cliffs of Dover etc) and everything else I was going to throw at it for a couple of years.

I'm certainly not disappointed...

It doesn't matter. If you go to your stat page it shows your total asset value. They take that amount and transfer it over to your PC save. Your PC save will have to already exist for them to transfer it.

Also: and once you do it it's permanent. There's no going back.

So, what happens to your ships and such on the xbox when you transfer your "assets" over?
So i get to keep my ships but have a Zero credit balance or do my ships cease to exist?
Are we talking sublimation here? Solid directly to gas? Pufft! Gone.

I have been getting a odd error code recently and it's making me question the Xone...
More in a thread i am about to start.

they start off missing you, that then turns in to resentment and hatred for abandoning them for a pc account

My understanding from my conversation with customer support is that your Xbox Commander account is completely deleted at that point.

From my experience so far... that would be about right [yesnod]

It is indeed terminated... more than one reason for having two Xbox accounts :)

Woof!!

So i lose everything. May be worth just beginning again on pc... but all that money!!

After I started off again as a fresh n00b in a Horizons sidey in Alliance space, I got hold of a fuel scoop and a half decent FSD and made my way back to my adopted home where I've spent the last year on Xbox. I bought a Python and Anaconda and A rated them... plus a Cobra III for fun.

It makes a huge difference having a ton of cash starting over...just those damned engineers to do all over again. Off I go on the 14 jumps to Maia for the obligatory ton of meta alloys to unlock Farseer [sad]

It's strange, but once I got behind the controls of a Python again... I didn't feel that much of a n00b anymore :D
