Horizons Beluga liner :D

Well, I had some spare cash after buying the Corvette so I decided to buy a liner with the change, I bought the beluga as it was larger than the other and had a better jump range.
Already im impressed after flying the Asp, although it doesnt have all A grade stuff as I ran out of cash lol its still impressive as general use (same use as my old asp), even with extra fuel tanks It can still hold more cargo than the asp + now has a much larger jump distance without having to refuel on route.

I like the Beluga for exploration, handles real good in cruise, not so good in normal space. Its not great in combat, even with a fighter. Would love it for passenger missions, but since most passengers have a scan phobia, the Beluga is useless. Mine is heavily modded with l5 clean drives and a 31 lys jump range, but even lightweight it doesn't go much faster than an Anaconda, and neither can it boost away from a scan, level 5 dirty drives won't give it any significant increase over the clean drives, and you have heat issues with them. Failed a few missions cause of the stupid scan phobias, I now just use it as a miner. I use my Cutter now to haul local passenger missions, at least that ship can beat a scan in one boost. The Orca is also fast, but limited on jump range, so not very useful. For the odd 1000 lys passengers, I use my explorer Asp, no weapons, low level shielding but boosts up to 450, can only haul 1 cabin and no cargo on the explorer build, but can jump 45 lys in a single jump or 178 lys in a neutron supercharge. I did take the Beluga out on a 15k ly round trip passenger mission, actually found 2 missions going to same place for 51 mil, plus 22 mil for all the scan data, but that was difficult for the 3 week time limit, won't do that again. Can't imagine doing a Sag A round trip in 3 weeks. In my Asp it does 1000 lys in about 25 jumps, that is half of what a Beluga could do. I mean, its doable in the time, that is if you only jump and scoop, forget about seeing any sights along the way. They should change the time to be in game time as opposed to actual time, because I may not be able to play everyday during that 3 week period. And heaven forbid if you go all that way and get scanned as you are returning, you just lost that mission, just stupid.

I'm tempted to buy one myself (have some "spare" cash too [big grin]).
I am currently doing passenger missions in my Conda.
Exceptional jump range, veteran hardcore explorer (paintjob down to 10%) and enough space for 30 passengers (don't like to stack too much missions).

So the question is: What's the benefit of a Beluga?

I have just bought a Beluga. It's jump range is way too low for what it is designed for, in my opinion. I engineered the FSD to Grade 5 and now have a tad short of 30 lyr jump range, but that is no more than my basic Asp X. But it can carry a lot of passengers.

I suspect the ship is a little ahead of where the game stands at the moment. When we can walk about our ships and interact with others on board, the ship may have a more meaningful existence.

But I love the feel of the ship ... it does feel like flying something luxurious, even if it cannot jump very far. [heart]

Since I got the grade 5 mods for the engines and FSD the beluga has been assigned to the 2nd hand market :) and gone back to the asp out of heavily increased jump range and booster speed, the beluga does out rate the asp in cargo & passenger space though at the moment I have no use for it. I did use it for planetary missions (because it looks good from the srv :) ), unless they improve the Beluga via modding then most likely I won't be going back.

Yes, SCAN Phobia. I don't know why more people are not screaming about this. Why would a long range explorer be "Secretive".

So, every Cruise vacation I ever took, included a healthy dose of smuggling and criminal activity. Right. Sold the Beluga I bought, seems silly until they fix this stupid nerf.

Luxury Class Passenger Cabins, only the Orca and Beluga get them.

I still have some tweaking and engineering left to do on mine, but literally stripping it down and lightweighting as much as possible it can reach a bit above 35 Ly jumps.

Now if there was only some really high-paying luxury-only passenger exploration missions... but for the life of me I hadn't found any. Only ones so far are First-Class or less that could be done better in a conda.
