New Vive thin cable

I haven't seen any threads about the new Vive thin cable so I thought I'd make one. https://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16826918004

I just got the cable for Christmas and thought it would be an improvement for room scale but tried it with Elite and it made a big difference.I never realized how heavy the old cable was. The weight of the old cable was just enough that when I would move my head around it would slightly pull the HMD out of the sweet spot. Now with the new thin and light cable that does not happen. It really helps with th E clarity of the image.

Glad you Vive owners could finally join what us Rift users have had since day one ;-)

In all seriousness thanks for sharing as it's good to know there is a real difference between this and the stock cable. I do like that the Vive let's you change the cable where the Rift's is hard attached. It is a bummer it's $40 for what should have come with the device in the first place.

At least Vive has made parts available Oculus seems to like to argue about what the cause is for a month then respond. I could swear they said in the past before actually selling these that there was going to be replacement parts available well they will sell us a sensor but nothing that really matters like uh I don't know "a cable". If mine breaks I am not going to be happy after watching what others are going through with them. This isn't some 100 dollar POS people spent some good money on this stuff and parts need to be made available.

It would have been nice if the vive when it launched came with the new thinner single cable but at the time that type of cable did not exist. The bandwidth requirements are very high because unlike the rift all tracking, visual and audio had to go through the cable.

I'm glad we vive commanders are still not experiencing the color banding of the rift ;-)

Can't say I've ever had a problem with the cable.

But is this available in the UK?

I had a look on the Vive store, there is a 3 in 1 cable but it doesn't say if it's the smaller one.

Also £36 + £24 p+p???

£60 for a cable?? [woah]

This too will come. They will be releasing replacement cables.

From the product page, 99H12105-00 is the model number of the cable. Confirm with that.

The HMD feels so much lighter now and less restricted. I never realized how much weight the cable added to the HMD, even sitting down.

It is a lot for a cable thou. I think it should be about 19$. At least Newegg has a free shipping option.

Exigeous, the rift cable is removable.

Uh, did you not read what I wrote?

I was attempting to be cheeky, I suppose I failed.

Touche my friend, very true. What's funny is banding never bothered me, or I never noticed it at least, until I read about the issue. Now I see it quite a lot. Do you really never see it in the Vive, like say around the edges of a star?

That really is good to hear, whenever someone asks me to compare the Rift and the Vive one of the Rift benefits I tout is the lighter weight. Good to hear it's a positive upgrade for Vive owners. I'm not the type to get caught up in brand loyalty, especially around VR. The better any VR product is for others the better it is for the industry and then finally better for me.

You can always just buy braided cable sleeve and do it yourself for 10 quid. Nice and tight, the three cables roll a bit closer, making it thinner and round.

That's a simple, but great mod. That cable sleeving probably slides across and over things a bit better too.

I know it's not the same sort of cable but it reminds me of the 'rounding' of ribbon cables for the older IDE hard disk drives etc.

Yes, it generally slides across everything a little better and makes it just a little easier to manage

Again yes, exactly - I know what you mean :)

That is not the same. This cable is a single cable and has less mass then the three cable combined into one. That is why the HMD feels lighter because it doesn't have the weight of the triple cable.

I know it's not the same, it's just a mod that helps... A $12.00 retractable clothesline on the ceiling takes away all drag, if you really want to address it

This is exactly what I did with my Vive.

However with my 4k monitor, even with all the cool stuff VR gives in Elite, keep playing on my monitor as its deeper and richer.

Thankfully I still have my TrackIR.
