Can I pay off an active bounty?

A system state changed while in the middle of massacre missions, how can I pay off the bounty?

Is there not certain places that allow you to pay them off early?

Thanks

Nutter

Afraid not. Bounties, live or dormant cannot be paid off until their timer expires at which point they become legacy fines.

If it's severely disrupting your gameplay, you can buy a Sidewinder, make sure that you are scanned and destroyed by the system authority in the system where the bounty is, and you should re-spawn clean. The key to getting rid of any bounty is that it is collected when you are destroyed.

Thanks, that's ironic, I'm working the the systems authority to destroy ships and now I'm wanted by them for following orders! hahaha !!

How long is the timer on the bounty? If it was an accidental friendly fire hit, it would be 8 minutes, probably gone by now. Unfortunately if you destroyed something you shouldn't have it will be 5 days / a week.

If the timer reads On H-Jump, it means it's timed out, and once you jump out of system and back in you will be clean.

Well I've got 7 days - I had to complete the missions, I've done them all and have about 20m to collect from them haha - If let them kill me will I lose my mission rewards?

Yes, I think you may, although I'm not 100% sure on that. Bounties and combat bonds are definitely lost, not sure about mission rewards, sorry.

The solution is probably to sneak into the station using silent running (there is obviously a risk you will be spotted and destroyed), cash in the missions, then buy the Sidewinder, leave the station slowly so you get scanned and destroyed...

Hehe I tried that but as soon as I jump in everyone gets upset! :D

Sounds like you forgot to declare a side.

Whenever you enter a CZ, you have to declare the side you're working for or you're essentially a war criminal.

If it's a massacre mission then you won't lose credit for the ships you blew up. You will lose the combat bonds you had though.

You can't become wanted by killing the ships in a CZ. It's lawless whether you choose sides or not. If you attack anybody during a ceasefire, you'll struggle to get out alive. I'm pretty sure it's still lawless anyway.

There's one way you can become wanted there. Often an NPC who's after your mission reward cargo will follow you into a CZ. If you shoot him before scanning, you become wanted, or if he launches a fighter and you shoot that before scanning, you become wanted. That's very easy because you're often already shooting the mothership when it launches, so you hit it straight away.

If you're wanted and need to get into the station, fly to its axis line before heading in, then 4 pips to engines and fly in fast. When you're a couple of KM out, use reverse to slow down. Aim to go through the slot at about 150 m/s. As long as you approach with a speed of about 250 or above you won't get scanned, so nobody will know you're wanted. Getting out is even easier. Line up with the slot, wait until it's clear, 4 pips to engines, full throttle and hit boost just as you get to the slot. Keep boosting until you're well clear, then jump to wherever.

I tried the getting killed in a Sidey method and it did not work. The active bounty had 4 days left. Upon getting killed, the bount immediately went to a Dormant bounty, but did not clear.

Getting killed turns the bounties dormant. For it to be removed entierly, in my experience, it must be a system authority of the exact faction you have the bounty issued from. If its not the faction that owns the system (which it might not be, if you attack a ship belonging to another faction they might be who issued the bounty on you) you will need to find a system they control and then get killed there.

Ive had mixed success but you can clear them for good if you die enough different ways. However you would need to reactiveate the bounty at this point by doing something illegal again before a cop would attack you.

This is absolutely correct, the most sure fire way of getting killed by the right faction is to look in the system map, find a station that that faction is in control of and then go shoot at that station. Whether the cops at that station, or the station its self kills you, your crimes will be wiped clean.

That's exactly what I did. I allowed a system authority ship from the faction I was wanted with kill me.

I'm still a bit new to ED and I just learned that this did actually work. Now that the bounty is Dormant, I'm no longer wanted in that system.

Thanks for the help everyone....

I've recently had to clear a bounty myself, and made a video of the process. Perhaps it will be helpful here
