Discussion VoiceAttack Voice Packs - Worth it?

To those that have purchased one or more of the add-on voice packs what are your thoughts around the value of them? Do you find that you played with some of the advanced stuff a few times at first but as the new-ness wore off you no longer do? Which pack did you get and why do you love it? I'm a huge fan of immersion and use VoiceAttack with EDDI and think the combination is just fantastic. I've been hesitant to get one of the Voice Packs as Astra is probably the only voice I'd actually enjoy as I don't really want Data or Kirk talking to me in game. I also wish there was an easy way to switch the packs from the recorded voice to a text to speech voice globally - I've added a number of custom commands/scripts and use the Inova Emma voice which is rather fantastic. It bugs me slightly that my ship says some things in the default voice and others in Emma's voice - if I could have them all just be TTS from Emma that would definitely be my choice.

So what say you - do you find all the add on stuff cool, like being able to get information about various things like black holes, neutron stars, etc. etc. or did that wear off pretty quickly. At only $10 they are a pretty great price, I'm just worried it would go in my box of "stuff I thought I wanted" and pretty much sit there doing nothing.

My experience with HCS Voice profiles has been positive so far. Be prepared to do some configuration, but the HCS forums were great and most of my questions were answered. I've got ASTRA, Orion, Midnight, Minus and KsAI. Out of these, Midnight and Orion are probably my favourites, but I bought ASTRA so I can use the "multi-crew" profile they offer. KsAI is hilarious, but sadly we're still waiting for them to update his profile to Guardians 2.2. So he's still a bit basic at the moment.

In terms of the novelty factor, they haven't bored me yet. Practically I really like being able to deploy shield cell banks, heat sinks, or chaff while focusing on flying, so they are a very useful tool.

I've also heard rumours on their forum that they might be integrating a bit more with Elite's API so that the profiles are more aware of what the actual settings are in your ship. At the moment, the profiles sort of assume you'll have certain menus selected. Otherwise, something like the "Select Landing Pad" command will end up with weird menus and options getting selected if you're not already on the Navigation panel.

Overall, it'll depend on your personal preferences, but they're a nice little touch to the game and help make things a little interesting.

I simply use MS Hazel with VA and EDDI. All the same lovely British female voice and best of all, completely FREE!

Yup, this is exactly what I'm doing right now and for the most part I agree that it's great and free = good. I'm just sorta curious about adding all the extra stuff that the VA packs add, curious if I'd enjoy that or not.

I like the verity voice pack because it is the same voice as the build in game ship sounds. This way I only have two voices, Verity when the ship is telling me something, and the Ivona Amy voice for EDDI for everything else.

Id suggest to try some free ones to see if you like using voice attack with responses. voiceattackpacks.com

Hello all.

Having recently acquired a VR HMD I am looking at VoiceAttack and HCS. I've looked at most of the videos on the HCS site and I have a simple question: is there any functional difference between voice packs? Verity and A.S.T.R.A. sound very similar, but apart from responding with different phrases, do they actually work differently in the way they translate your commands into actions?

Many thanks.

Edit: never mind. Got the answer on HCS Discord channel.

I use;
  • EDDI - to check for things in game such as testing if hardpoints/landing gear/cargo scoop are deployed ... if in the ship/slf or srv along with various other stuff
  • bindED
  • Ripley Galactic https://www.alpha-orbital.com/kics - for the audio files to provide some feedback on events from Elite
and they're all free.

Cmdr X,
Long time sir. So, have bought a couple of them looking for just the right one.
I started with ASTRA and the personalized pack shortly after. I even went and purchased the Ivona Amy TTS when I was using EDDI so they all were the same voice (strangely enough the Galnet girl as well). Sadly, they never did a COVAS to match which surprised me.
I moved on to buy Alix, Carina, Chase, Crusoe, and Jazz.
Personally I have been hoping they would have something like MUTHER from the Alien franchise. Jazz is the closest I could get because I don't want too much personality from my ai.

Needless to say, I find them immersive even if I don't use everything. It makes it less lonely in the black and I have a relatively dependable copilot when it gets hectic.
Just asking her to request docking and have it done while I fly the ship is enough.
I will say you have to make sure voice attack is trained well and always have your most needed binds available, but it is definitely worth a look.

See you in the black X
