what other games do you explorers play as a contrast to ED?

I love this game to death, but occasionally need the instant action of world of warships when I've been out in the black too long.
Any other suggestions welcome :)

Occasionally, when I just come and go, I launch Tropico 5, Day of the Tentacle or Sid Meier's Ace Patrol for easy going gameplay.

For more action I bought GTAV in which I'm 2/3 way though (played it a lot on PS3), but lately I'm just too exhausted for anything high octane.

I bought and refunded XCOM2, that was a disaster for me. :)

I like many games.

Defense Grid 1&2
Invisible Inc.
Prison Architect
Dishonored 2
Mafia III
Fallout IV
Deus Ex Mankind Divided
Watchdog 2
Far Cry Primal

Looking very much forward to Mass Effect Andromeda.

If you want something with excellent exploration: The Long Dark. Still Early Access though, but the sandbox mode is great. Of course, it might not be everyone's cup of tea. Basically, it's a game of quiet and thoughtful exploration, and getting mauled by wolves.

I play fallout 4 and Final Fantasy X HD remastered when I am not playing ED

Oh yes, FFX is in my library too! I played it through on PS2 - it is fantastic and that's coming from someone who is pretty far from being fantasy RPG fan. But parts of it are truly the definition of grind.

I also played it on PS2, all the way through 2 times.

Yes this is true, parts of it are pretty grindy, like dodging all those lightning bolts. But overall the game is my favorite RPG of all time. And the digital HD remaster is very pretty.

If I want something different from this, I tend to play World of Tanks. Nothing too serious, just jump in and shoot things (and die quite a lot)

There are other games??!??!? ;)

Since ED launched I've played through XCOM 2 once, Hearts of Iron IV once, South Park once, Saints Row: Gat Out Of Hell once, GTAV once, Cities: Skylines a couple of times and a bit of Mini Metro.

I will play some more Hearts of Iron and do XCOM 2 again, plus the last Shadow Run game is installed and waiting. I picked up Divinity:Original Sin in a steam sale over Christmas and I'll play that any day now.

All that being said, I'm at least 3-4 months from docking if I stick to my circumnavigation plan and now that aliens have actually appeared I may not have the luxury of tarrying in other games if I want to get back before it all kicks off...

DayZ. not much lately though. Need to log in and check out the most recent update.
Onward. Trying to get over the motion sickness.
War Thunder. Great in VR
American Truck Simulator. not so great in VR (yet)
Arma 3
Rocket League
Project Cars. recent purchase from Steam sale. Great in VR
The Long Dark.
GTA V
No Man's Sky. Not so much after about a week from launch

Oh yes War Thunder, LOVE me some Warthunder too. I fly Germans almost exclusively

In no particular order:

World of Warcraft and The Old Republic, though not so much any more.

Overwatch.

Uncharted and Tomb Raider series'.

Mass Effect: Andromeda will almost certainly soak my time start to finish at least once. FD needs to release the next update a month before, or a month after, imo.

Other types of playtime that can't be discussed in detail.

Well, DayZ, Civ VI, ArmA 3 and FSX are sometimes calling out to me, and I still got a Classic Ironman Campaign to finish in XCOM2 ... but aliens! Quick! To the Pleiades!

i bought the long dark before ED if i recall correctly although i haven't played it for over a year, i am currently freezing my nuts off in some ranger cabin in the wilderness - im sure there have been several updates as its been a year and i might be missing something :) but supplies were running low on my current game and death is inevitable.

(**edit -- just looked on the site i have missed so much.... guess my trip back to the bubble may be delayed as i thaw out my survivor... and i also realised i haven't played since Nov 2015 :O)

ironically xbox recommended - "people who purchased early access to the long dark also bought Elite dangerous early access" (or something to that effect) which is how i got into ED

i keep meaning to buy & play Dayz but im time poor...

I throw in the occasional Distant Worlds or Galactic Civilisations III. Apart from that I am waiting for the relaunch of the Master of Orion series and Endless Space II.

I'm really into ED at the moment, but when I want to play something else I like to get in my cab in Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2)

There's always other VR/Non VR games going, but the above two are my go2 games when I want to sit back and play for a few hours
