How is range for the intermediate discovery scanner calculated?

On ED Shipyard it says: Range: 1000 (3.34)ls

What does this mean? Does the range increase at higher SC speeds?

So do you know what the (3.34) means? That's what I'm trying to work out.

The tool tip suggests that the number in brackets is the passive scan range (also in ls). 33.36 for the ADS seems about right based on my experience which suggested it was somewhere more than 25 and less than 40.
