It just occurred to me while I was being ganked...

Happened to me yesterday. Heading to Jameson in my Annie fiited out for max trade I was interdicted by a Cutter with some well engineered weaponry. Not in a position to fight, I high waked out and changed to solo. Can't see the problem myself, it's no different to an NPC interdicting you except the pilots are better and the ships engineered better.

Also take a moment to enjoy a cmdr flying a corvette claiming to be 'ganked'. Poor elite/founder Corvette, oh-so-helpless after chosing Open himself. Why should other people be able to play the way they want. If any system ever needed harsh C&P to protect the poor beginners in their sidewinders it is at the jameson memorial.

I feel I am being unfairly maligned and in the third person to boot!

What other word for it is there - "ganked" for sure. My point being that it's just plain annoying nothing more, so what was the point of the whole adventure? I certainly wasn't complaining about anything more than the annoyance :)

Correct but it seems like you are suggesting that anyone who ventures into Open deserves or should expect a ganking. Sort of like getting diarrhoea if you visit somewhere horrid for holidays? I'm pretty sure FD didn't implement Open with that kind of thing in mind.

On the contrary mate - I was merely lamenting that such jerks exist (a bit TIC I must admit though). Open would be for the better without murderous jerks like this who player kill with great delight and no other motivation that to harvest the inconvenience and pain of their victim (I'm not talking pirates here but those playerkillers who preferentially target players precisely BECAUSE they're players, as if that's the only way they can have fun). But, of course, the game allows them to behave in such a manner, with pitiful punishment for such behaviour in what should be secure systems, so they will. Meanwhile, they wonder why some people simply don't want to play with them, combat log on them and others simply desert open or leave the game entirely, and they wonder why some people want an open PvE mode? But jerks will be jerks......

...on my run in to Jameson Memorial at Founders World.

Yes I was on my return journey to Jameson Memorial in my Corvette out of Ammo and out of SCB's (one left) when I got ganked by two FDL's. So I lined up and high waked out.

Yawn.

Switched to solo and completed my journey back to Jameson.

OK so every so now an again these wasocks bag an unsuspecting customer (is that like an orgasm for these idiots?) but I gotta ask FD: What is the point in allowing these fools the mechanics (or absence thereof) to just generally inconvenience players and spoil the ED experience?

Why FD, why?

Time lost - 5 mins max.

Doesn't the word "ganking" originate from
"being ganged upon" and "killed"?
You live, so no gank.
Carry on CMDR.

But, that is one huge, immense difference between the commander gankers and the NPC gankers. It's like miles apart. I have problems with skilled player gankers, but the NPC's I can deal with and live to get away. Engineering and ship type makes all the difference between the two.

Pretty sure it is only a gank if the target is at a lower level than the agressors or could never stand a chance, you in your vette can't be ganked, but you can be pulled over for some pvp, expecially in pvp city (Jameson). If you don't want to take your lumps don't play in open but it's really stretching things to call this a gank.

I agree, it's not a gank. Attempted player killing, yes (I suspect). Gank? No.

A cmdr should always be attentive and expecting to be attacked by AI, aliens and cmdrs. It doesnt always happen, very rarely even, but its your job to prepare and deal with it. Preferably without logging. You also didnt get 'ganked', thats not how you call 'being attacked while in my corvette'. Running out of ammo isnt an Act of God, you shot that ammo. So now you've learned not to shoot all your ammo but always keep some, plus an SCB, for the way home.

Or log. Whatever fits your idea of Elite better. :p

I fly a hmble Cobra, and I can survive. I only play Open. Maybe it isn't the ship?

Mr Steulobots, I dunno what you think. But for the sake of brevity and not to present a TL;DR post I chose not to list the exact amount of remaining munitions I had for the eight Multi cannons my Corvette possess. Suffice to say I certainly did not have enough for a full on PvP encounter. So it was for this reason I had already programmed in an escape vector and immediately chose to evade the whole interaction by high waking out.

You've mentioned combat logging a couple of times and I'd hate it for anyone reading this thread to get confused and believe that I combat logged to get out of this. I did not. My honourable opponents in this engagement got a fair shot and failed to get past two rings of my shields before jumped out. You should also note that in my OP I did say I had one SCB.

So I don't need any "lessons" thanks :)

It's just like having to fight your way through a cloud of flies every time you go there - pointless annoyance.

Yes, let's all imagine ED without the interdiction mechanic.

Hmm... Kind of makes sense that it would be difficult to track someone in SC, since they wouldn't be where you see them.

But anyway, back on topic...

I wouldn't mind if the Pilots Federation Special Forces had a kill on sight list for a period of time for Commander killers. :)

Why don't gankers just kill NPCs in Solo, that way they would not annoyone at all, oh wait, thats the only reason they do it. To then sit and imagine how much they have incovinienced someone, what a life. [zZzZz]

Try standing outside the supermarket and start beating up people out trying to do their shopping, it would not last long or be worth it, even if it did make you feel proud of yourself.

Agreed. I re-read my response and it reads like a criticism, when none was intended :)

Most likely. Kiling a vette would be like smashing a good un in conkers. It's a cut throat universe after all, Aliens, assassinations, murder, piracy, intrigue etc. I'm sure many player ships would fall foul of a bit murder at some point with all that going on. I can't call it murder though, because our characters don't die, they eject don't they. More like player inconveniencing.

Whenever I fly the vette I expect to be interdicted by players, some just want to see it or muck about, others want to blow it up. it pays to keep an eye on which blips are square and which are triangles and never let them behind you lol

Exactly so utterly daft.

Come on FD, sort it out!

we have a second pve group with 13,800 members in it, and as its taken over from the Mobius group it should be seeing 1000 players joining each month, look for MOBIUS PVE.

If GunnerBill was looking for a blanky and a pacifier he could have just PM'd you directly instead of starting a thread about evil gankers, bad mechanics re frame shift interdictors and poor unawares Elite Corvette pilots being inconvenienced for a couple minutes.

Also, are you supposed to be using the officials to advertise your group?

Agree. But I'd like to add that the only reason he survived in the first place, is the fact that he owns a ship that can survive such an encounter. The best I can afford at the moment is an Asp and I can't survive a single FdL for more than a few seconds, let alone two of them. High-waking impossible. This complete lack of consequences for the ganker together with the no-more-existance of any balance has driven me away from open, which I personally find very sad, because a game like Elite Dangerous just doesn't really make sense to me in solo. At the moment I'm considering Mobius, still thinking about it.

I agree with you 100%.

FD has shown no propensity to alter game mechanics that would change griefing/ganking. Their actions (or lack of them) over time lead me to believe they want to keep the status quo, the "danger", a part of the game. Players like/dislike this for a variety of reason, all of which has been discussed in the forum ad nauseum.

FD does what it does, players deal with it, one way or the other.

Also, these posts inevitably degenerate into snide remarks, impugning someone's manhood/skills/whatever.

Last post on this thread, everyone enjoy.

I find it woeful that Commanders choose to endlessly hassle pilots in Shinrarta. Made a suggestion that the permit could be temporarily revoked for repeat offenders. Response? Tumbleweed.

More than a year ago, I was docked at Jameson, and a newly promoted Elite pilot flew in and docked. Over open comms he said, "Wow! This place is amazing!" There were all sorts of Commanders there to welcome him, flying a wide array of ships.

Now it is just gank central, with the same dull, unimaginative FdL builds trying to kill everybody. Big whoop.

It is such a shame that FDev place so little value in nurturing positive open experiences, which Shinrarta used to provide. Now, if you want to find those friendly commanders, just log into Möbius. It's sad, but true.

As for me? I won't be deterred from open play, but I have removed my fleet from Shinrarta. I find the FdL pilots to be not only incompetent gankers, but also very poor interlocutors. Perhaps they just need to grow up a bit.

Ah, "ganked" usually means being attacked by much stronger opponents, in much greater numbers. A 2v1 with the 1 in a corvette is more "attacked" than "ganked". :)Apologies if I sounded too aggressive.

how could they know you were out of ammo? do yo think it's good practice to venture in open without ammo? couldn't you break sooner, you greenhorn? :D

so you went out in open and got interdicted by two guys. don't tell. anything else?

Why FD, why?

wait ... fd ganked you???
