I haven't explored in a while has anything changed.

So like the title says it has been a while since I've left the bubble and I'm curious about a few things.

Can you get payed for finding geysers and fumroles and barnacles and ancient ruins by scanning them or can you scan them at all? Meaning can you get cartographic data from them.

If you can get paid for scanning these locations how do you do find these types of locations please don't give me a spread sheet. Please give methods and ways of finding these unique locations.

1. yes, you get paid for scanning barnacles and ancient ruins. you do so with the srv data link scanner and get a"datapoint intel" which you can cash in later

2. no payment for finding geysers and fumaroles, but they yield good sources of materials - of the same kind then the planet, but focussed around them.

3. as for finding: ruins and barnacles. best practice is cruising above a surface and to go for visual clues - eyesight. and then using the restricted range of your srv wave scanner

4. as for finding geysers and fumaroles: check out terrains which have geological activity (for exampel terrain with canyons), and you'll get a really small blue poi for the materials. eyesight help with active fumaroles at night, too.

finding any of it can take hours, sometimes days.

I've never seen any of these, I need to spend more time on the ground I guess. Are they all available outside the bubble?

geysers and fumroles yes, barnacles yes (they were found in the california nebula for exampel), as for ancient ruins: we have just found one at all, but patch notes sound if there are more.

but really, searching for any of these is not fun for everyone! i have found one geyser location myself .... took 10 hours on a small moon. since then i simply visit the most beautifull locations shared by others. i plan to return to geyser and fumarole hunting in a planetary nebula at some point...

I hope that they had more to this aspect of the game. Something that takes some skill so that it isn't just pot luck, although chance findings are also great. Maybe a survey scanning system or probes.

I'm enjoying exploring but I feel it needs a little love,

it definetly needs love, but finding geysers, fumaroles and barnacles takes skills, too. at least those who worked out a method for themself are reporting new finds regularly and are much faster in finding them. still, the time inestement is quite massive, even for the best.

Yes, 'sightseeing adventure' passengers now contribute towards exploration rank, so getting to Elite within the bubble will be such a breeze now.

I'm on my way to 7kly away now to ferry some 'explorer' passenger, I'm assuming these will contribute towards rank as well. I may well finally become Elite after I come back from this trip. Or not. We'll see.

3. as for finding: ruins and barnacles aren't they only found in certain locations I mean I thought that barnicles could only be found in nebulas and I thought that ruins could only be found a certain location I can't remember and that they will only spawn on that location. best practice is cruising above a surface and to go for visual clues - eyesight. and then using the restricted range of your srv wave scanner

sweet thanks for the replies as far as barnacles and ruins go though aren't barnacles and ruins only found in certain locations. I thought that there were only a few ruins ever discovered and I thought you could only find barnacles in nebulas is that true?

- well, actually we have just found 1 ruin. patch notes read like there are more. where - who knows?

- as for barnacles: yes, there is the assumption they can be "only" found in nebulas - but there are a lot of nebulas ingame. anyway, it is not like we have found 1000 barnacles, it might also be they are found in nebulae because that is where people are scouting for them.
